What are the dodge 3500 recall notices (that went out in the last two weeks) about. I called the dealer and he would not be specific ,and had to bring the truck in to find out.

Bill, Hope you are enjoying your new home!

On that spring tower recall. is that for IFS or coil & link, (4WD & chassis cab)?

Mines a '95 2WD 3500, IFS and the frame, complete, was replaced for 0$!

Big John, thanks for getting that number right, mine looked like it said S35. The recall says the front coil spring towers may crack and separate causing the rear brake line (???) to sever, which will result in increased stopping distance, duh. It is for '94 &'95s. My recall says this is shown on the enclosed form, I received no form, did you John? Recall says if the towers are alright they will install reinforcement brackets, 3 hrs. If the tower(s) are cracked they will replace it/them, 7 hrs. This makes it sound like they may just replace one tower if only one is cracked, must mean that they are using the same inferior tower again and just depending on the reinforcement to fix it. Either that or you may end up with a different type of tower on each side. Seems funky to me.

I had my coil spring towers done in February. As far as I know, only the reinforcement brackets were necessary. Here's more info from the 835 recall to answer earlier questions:

Models: 1994-1995 (BR)

· 2500/3500 Series 4x4 Regular and Club Cab Dodge Ram Trucks

· 3500 Series 4x2/4x4 Chassis Cab Dodge Ram Trucks

NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 5. 9L diesel or an 8. 0L V-10 engine ("C" or "W" in the 8th VIN Position) built through:

· March 21,1995 (MDH 0321XX) for Regular Cab Ram Trucks.

· June 3, 1995 (MDH 0608XX) for Club Cab Ram Trucks.

Repair: Both front coil spring towers must be inspected for cracks. Trucks without cracked towers must have a coil spring tower reinforcement bracket welded onto each existing coil spring tower. Trucks with a cracked right and/or left coil spring tower must have the cracked coil spring tower(s) replaced in addition to welding on the reinforcement brackets. All welding must be performed by a qualified welder.

This one is a little strange. Are people still receiving this recall? I had mine done some time ago. I think it was last year sometime. What's the date on the recall? It's a real safty issue since you can wreck the truck if a spring tower fails at highway speeds. My dealer has a certified welder so it only took about three hours to do the job. Real nice welding job.

The recall has a date of March 2000 and was the topic of discussion over a year ago but it sounds like some are just now receiving their notices.

Had mine done a year ago

I received that recall notice over a year ago and had mine fixed. The dealer had to send the truck out to a certified welder so I had to leave it for a day. They welded extra support brackets at the top of the coil spring housing. I haven't seen any adverse effects.

Took the truck to dodge today they ran the numbers back through chrysler computer and it said no recalls for this 97 3500. Just dont know what is happening here.

Is there a limit to how long they will honor this recall  Should I just take it to the Dodge dealer and they can look it up via the VIN number? Mine has an aftermarket spacer above the coil spring - will their repair interfere with this? It also has a Western plow.

I had mine done last year. The dealer claimed to have a certified welder. I have no idea who certified him, maybe a psychiatrist?

The job they did was terrible. I told them so but certainly had no intention to take it back.

Later, when I had things apart for replacing the ball joints, I had a real welder come and clean up the mess they made and do the job right.

Check them out before you let them mess it up!!!
