New Woman Situation...

train vs semi

I saw one in the junkyard about a month ago, intact, and saw another for sale on the highway the other day, and thought that would be cool toy, just cause it's a dodge.

Anyone have any info on them? They were both the flat front/ cabover style.

Dodge made the small A series trucks using the van front and wheelbases, so there was an A-100. That's the small pickup sized one. The bigger ones were a tilt cab and I believe were called the L series. IIRC there was an L-600 and L700, sort of a bigger version of the A series. These really didn't have very much interior room, and were mostly used for local delivery stuff. I sat in one and it was very tight. Much less room than you'd expect from a medium size truck. In the early 70's Dodge also had a "Big Horn" which was a full semi sized rig with a long hood. Interestingly enough, it used the same roof as the regular pickups to save money. Kind of gave it a funky look. Big body, small cab. Pretty good trucks from what I hear, but not real big sellers. There are a couple good Dodge truck books out there. Take a peek on Amazon.com and you can usually pick up a used version cheap. If I had the room, I'd have a couple truck projects, especially a car hauler/ramp back. Have fun researching!

I think they were called C-900's. They were built in the '60s or '70s.

I found a LITTLE bit of info and they look to be the L-series trucks. I guess I'll have to go take a better look at them.

There is an old Dodge S/A semi truck (not the Bighorn) that I drive past every week. They still drive it some. On the same route, there is a Dodge straight truck w/grain box on it. They had a For Sale sign in it last year, but still have it.

Boss's grandpa has Dodge w/14' grain box on it. Stills runs and drives. He has been tinkering with it the past couple of years to restore it. The body is in surpisingly good shape for its age.

Not too sure, I just did a "Google" for a picture.

Try a Yahoo or Google search for Dodge Bighorn.

Here's another pic I found.

Whazzat on the hood? A Ram? Kinda' reminds me of the old IHC TransStars with that honkin' grill.

I recall that the TDR magazine not too long a go had a great article on the medium duty Dodge trucks.

The Bighorns are cool but weren't we looking for a COE? I remember them but can't find a reference or picture in any of my books. :-(

Not necessarily looking FOR, but I saw a couple COE's and was wondering about them. L series from what I've found out.
