Hi, does anybody know of a place to get aftermarket headlight lenes. I would like to transplant some sport's and get rid of my slt's dual's. Any web site that you might know of or anybody selling, yuor help would be welcome. Thanks to all that reply. :D :D

drwish62, let me know how you make out with the sport headlights,I have a sport, but with SLT lights,... . long story. DC told me that I they couldn't put the sport lights in onacounta' the wiring harness was not the same. I'm still interested in the sport lights, maybee I'll have to start cuttin' wires!

Patroit,Thanks for the info, but when you say "THIS HARNESS HELPS" does it plug right in or do I still have to do some splicin'.

Rob

It plugs in, but I had to pull some pins, and switch their position to get it right. (cant explain what to do, it's just trial and error)

Even now, when it's on high beam, to get all lights to go to low, when I hit the hi-low switch, I have to momentarily push in my light switch. It's a minor annoyance. The lighting is sooooo much better than before, and I do a lot of driving at night.

Eric

PS The way I have the harness setup, when I'm on low, or high beam, I have all 4 lights on. This made a huge difference. Even factory sport trucks cant do this!!:-laf :-laf

sport headllisghts

drwish, and ramthis, i think it is worth it. check out the prices at http://www.headlightwarehouse.com/shop/shopping/?id=276.

i rewired my 01. 5 Sport headlights with relays, etc. OEM wiring is 18 and 20 ga, for cripes sake. i don't have all 4 filaments lighted on high, but with Wagner Bright Light bulbs ($10 ea), i don't need all 4 on. that generates a lot of heat. if i did, however, i could wire 'em that way. time consuming and tedious, but worth it. i made my own harnesses, so can't comment on the harnesses mentioned by the patriot.

Has anyone done these units from headlight warehouse? I would imagine they would do the TDR a hefty discount if we could get some sort of tally up. From what I understand through prior posts they fit right but some sheet metal has to be cut. As usual , it would be nice to have pics.

I run mine on the inside lights alone with the stock wiring harness. I may hook up the outside lights some day, but the insides alone are considerably more effective than my old stock headlights were.

I feel dumb asking this but why is everyone changing to Sport headlights? Is it because they have 2 headlights instead of one (high beam/Low Beam) I am guessing. Even so why change; is it so if one goes out you have at least one left on that side? Never fails the low beam goes out first.

I had a '99 sport,IMO the sport headlights are a nicer, even spread across the roadway, they don't have that shadow about 20' out in front, besides they just look cool! And yea you still have 1 light if one goes out.

sport llights

bob, the sport lights, being quad lights have more light down the road than the SLT lights. on high beam, i have a filament in the 9004's (inside lights) and a filament in the 9007's (outside lights) lighted. that plus i rewired the lights with 12 ga wire and relays, with better bulbs. considerably more light than the stock Sport, so should be a marked improvement over the stock SLT.

EDIT: at least i have noticed that oncoming drivers start to "complain" about my high beams when they are at least a mile away.

There are three reasons to change to Sport headlights:

1. the stockers have clouded up or leaked and you gotta buy new ones anyway.

2. you need better lighting.

3. you like the look.

For me it was all three!!!

sport lights

rj2, i can't remember which year the sport first came out. whatever year that was, on up, no cutting to put the sport lights in. all truck sheet metal will accept the sport lights from that year forward.

BTW, i have a set of specific instructions for rewire from SLT to Sport lights. uses heavy wire, and relays. currently the instructions are for y2k--y2k02. i could modify them for earlier years if needed. if anyone wants a set of the instructions, PM me with your real e-mail address noted. the attachment is too big to send using TDR PM. :)

Any of you guys that have made the conversion have any idea where a guy can get plugs separately like the Coolbulbs harness has? The headlight ones aren't so bad to find-but I want a set of the ones to plug into the factory plugs as well so I can make myself a plug-and-play harness-really averse to cutting any wiring up if I can get away without it... .

light socket plugs

you can buy plugs at your friendly local parts store. i could only find 9007's locally, but the 9007 will plug onto the 9004 bulb. the internal wiring on the 9004 bulbs is different than the 9007 bulb. no big deal, just remember that the common on the 9004 is the "A" wire, and the common on the 9007 is the "B" wire.

Yeah I can find the bulb end local-but I want the other end too-the one that looks exactly like the bulb's socket... ... 'member I said once upon a time I was a fussy bugger :D. May have to buy the Coolbulbs harness and rework it to do what I want it to do.....

Jason, the harness aint cheap, for what it is,(14 gauge wires) but I didnt want to burn a day off under the hood to make my own.

My time is worth some money too!!:D
