DODGE TOWING GUIDE

I've been trying to get members to check the Dodge site whenever they want to know "How much can my truck tow?"

Except it's only for new trucks. Everyone still asks "what can my 200X 2500 realy tow?". You oughta see the arguments over at rv.net all the time. Funny thing is, if they would look at the door plate, and the Owner's book for the recommended GCVW, it's all there

Actually, I don't think that the GCWR is stated in the owner's manual or the door plate. Only the GVWR and axle ratings are documented.

My manual has the GCWR and GVWR in it.

The owner's manual for my 04. 5 refers the reader to the door label for GVWR and GAWR and to www.dodge.com/towing for GCWR. No weights listed in the manual for anything. Since Dodge does not keep the towing info online for all that long, there is no where for an owner of an older truck to get that info, except ask around.



I just went to the link mentioned above. They only provide info on the 2005 models. I checked on a 3500 6 speed, and they only provide info on the DRW, although they don't state it that way. The site seems to be more interested in providing sales info than real towing data.

My manual has the GCWR and GVWR in it.

So does mine, but the GWVR is on the door jamb. They must have removed GCWR from the book in the later years.



I agree, the website put it out there for prospective buyers so they can compare the newest trucks. It's bad that your 2004 manual point to the website, yet the website really doesn't have the acurate numbers for your truck anymore. Could get a guy in trouble applying new truck specs to his older (by a year) truck.

Interesting they are still recommending the 75W140 gear oil for the axles when towing. And then they refer to 2003 MY trucks as having synthetic but that you should change out the factory fill with the heavier stuff if you tow or subject the truck to heavy duty use. You would think someone there would take the time to insure the accuracy of stuff the post on the net. Sure makes you wonder about DC as a corporation.

Hmmmm... . in addition to the owner's manual, Dodge put the 21,500 lb GCWR on the window sticker (Mulroney, or MSRP sticker) on my pore ole junky, smokey, rattlin' 2002 2nd gen truck.

D/C "changed" my GCWR - Maybe Yours is Wrong Too!

As Rusty states, the GWCR was listed in the owners manual and on the window sticker of my model year 2000 Ram 2500 5-speed. The only problem with the published GCWR of 16,000 lbs. was that it was WRONG! As far as I know, all manual transmission Cummins/Rams model year 2000 had window stickers showing 16,000 lbs.



I, along with others, was able to extract a letter from D/C (on their letterhead} that showed the correct GCWR of 20,000 lbs.
