I don't have the numbers in front of me, but compare the almost doubled bearing surface areas of the cummins to that of the 8-cylinder PowerStroke.

Well I sure hope PSD's aren't all as bad as this thread makes them out to be. Next week I'm picking up a used Y2K PSD Excursion as a family hauler. Natch, I won't be parting with my Cummins, especially now that it is bombed to perfection. It will be interesting to compare the two. Of course, stacking my 24v against a stock psd is not fair, but I hope that with an egt and chip the ford will be a respectable performer and get decent mileage to boot. I like the excursion, but there was no way I wanted a gas v10 to haul a wagon that ways 7000 lbs empty! The PSD will have to do! Keep you posted.

I usually just say my Dodge is running good at 183,000 miles and I hope they like their truck as well as I like mine. Be confident and happy, it will drive him nuts.


I actually listened to Powerstroke owner say how nice it would be if they made a pickup with a real diesel, you know, a six cylinder. I told him he should have shopped a little harder and opened my hood!

The one I like best is the chevy gasser guy who asked me why I would want such a noisy engine. I said, "why did you replace a perfectly good exhaust system with those expensive noisy dual pipes?" He said, "more power. " I said, "you really don't get it. "

Anyway, our 500+ employee Brand New Home construction company (284 homes in various stages of construction) must have a fleet deal with Ford because all of the Bosses' and production department heads' have a new or one year old PSD pickup. The owners' of the company have modified their PSD's with Banks stuff and gauges
, 4" exhaust, etc. I was talking to our VP in charge of construction about my RAM needing a transmission upgrade, and he told me that the best mod for his 4 door PSD other than his Banks was a 4" exhaust! He said his is now putting out 300BHP! Not dynoed yet.
We also 2 ea 8. 3L Cummins Volvo 'big rig' type 40yard dumpster roll-off trucks, 2 ea 7 1/2 ton Internationals dump trucks, and 5 RAM 5. 9L Cummins pickups, mine being the only 24V. However, since I've Bombed, there is NO WAY any of the bosses' could keep up with me, loaded or not!
However, I think, if I want to keep my job, I'll continue to just stay low profile and occationally bash my own DC transmission(which,BTW, since I've upgraded it, is now great) #ad

I go through this Phord thing at work... and it is always initiated by Henry, (now Henry Phord), his latest yap is "Phord owns Cummins and the stroke is an International". Whats up with that, any truth, I know that the phord is a Navistar, who are they? This poor guy put $2800. + worth of Banks stuff on the '97 phord and it sounds the same to me... maybe he did not wait for his change! #ad

Navistar murged with International several months ago. They are no longer International, but they are Navistar.
