OMG!! D-Max Turbo rebuild.

Did some pullin of cattle for Son and FIL with some help from a few others one with a 2000 Ford 7. 3 one with a Chevy 2004 a Dodge 04. 5 (mine) and FIL's Dodge 2010 All were pulling ABOUT the same weight. I hate to say that IM NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL with the FIL's Dodge 2010 dont know about the HP but it didnt do so well when pulling the hills (could it be the driver) maybe but FIL knows how to put his foot in it so I wouldnt think the driver would be an issue. The 04. 5 was the CLEAR winner of the Ford and Chevy my wagon blew the doors off their trucks in the hills:D Son had his 04. 5 but he's not stock with bigger injectors and Snow Meth inj. But he was the king of the hills. The Ford and Chevy were higher flatland speed only because they have a bigger "set" than I do I believe. Haven't figured the MPG's yet and dont really care that much about it, but they no longer call mine the Garage Queen because I dont like to get it dirty in the winter:-laf Made 6 trips so its not like they can say it was only 1 time. Glad I got a Cummins.

Good job! I did the same thing in August. I went to Bozeman, MT. for a truck pull so I was hauling my '75 Ford 250 4x4, about 17,000 lbs and 4 of us had a good run from Livingston to Bozeman over the mountain. My brother in his '96 F450 rollback w/7. 3 with a bunch of goodies including propane, hauling his '78 F250, '06 D-max 4dr. 4x4 stock, pulling his sled puller, nuther '06 with a 6. 0 gasser 4dr. 4x4, hauling his sled puller. We were all close in weight with the F450 being the heaviest. The 6. 0 showed up about lunch:-laf, with us other three real close in power. On the way back I pushed the D-Max hard and could out pull him, but for stock it was a runner. We were all family so it was fun.

I haven't had the opportunity to do a back to back comparison like that, so thank you very much for sharing the information.

A quick comment I would like to make from my experience. I don't use my trucks to tow anywhere near as heavy as many of you, but they are off improved roads, on steep grades and in 4-wheel drive daily. I had more trouble in the brief 75K I kept my former '05 Silverado than in the nearly 400K combined miles we have on our current Dodge trucks. How people use the GM offerings as work trucks or anywhere other than a paved parking lot is beyond me.

Actually the Chevy was a runner I like coming from the back of the pack in things like this. As I said they had me on the flats I know it was not the trucks fault I have 3. 73 gears and I could have out ran them for sure I just dont like going that fast pulling a trailer with that kind of weight over 75 mph. But the hill we hit isnt that steep but long long long. It has a passing lane for most of the way so when we started I let them show what they had going and hit the turn signal and moved to the left and went on by the Ford the Chevy kicked it in the A** hard and it was doing ok but it to became lights in the rear view. Son got on the CB and said move over OLD MAN im coming thru his is really a hard puller but NOT STOCK.

Dmax's are pretty good pullers if you keep em up in the rpms. They dont have the low end pulling capabilities like the cummins. I rode with a friend to deliver some bulls to a family member down south. It pulled the grades pretty well but i was surprised at the rpms he was runnin to maintain some of those grades  he didnt bat an eye the entire trip so must be normal for those engines just more than what im used to seeing.

D4L I couldn't tell the RPM's because it was cold and window's up + I was busy playing smart A** with my CB I have one with all the sound effects I was playing a train sound with a train horn. I was a kid at one time with all the Radio Rambo toys and sound effects. :D

BUT I NEVER STARTED ANY ARGUMENTS WHEN ON THE ROAD :-laf
