That is an eyedeer, make the misses cranky because cannot check the lip color in the new truck with a MSRP of 38,330! May be the 2nd most expensive chrysler vehicle, right below the Viper...

Well, after reading all this I guess it is time for the 'old' 99 to see some wax and have another oil change!!

Guess I'll be waiting for that diesel electric they claim to be building some day.

Hey maybe all these deletions are really their way to increase the corporate average fuel economy by decreasing the weight... . #ad

Got an early (May 2000) 2001. I have lighted mirrors, grab handles, insulation, etc. and drum rear brakes. DC isn't the only auto maker to employ ("value engineering") i. e. delete as much as you can get away with. Ford did a number on the Lincoln Town Car in '94. (Who needs roll down rear windows anyway?) That's what happens when management listens to their accountants instead of the customer.

Do we have any recource through the FTC or BBB or anywhere?

1) Lighted vanity. (My wife uses this all the time)

2) Rear cup holders. (Anyone in the rear seats uses these).

3) Insulation under the hood. It's just not there.

4) Rear grab handle on passenger side.

Don't get me wrong, I love our new truck, just not the way the Dodge is treating us.

Bob

If they delete the Cummins motor, they'll have a bunch of new trucks gathering rust on sales lots. Then they'll figure it out. But it'll be too late!

You guys read "Blowin' In The Wind" in the new TDR? Page 80 under "Chrysler Group Turnaround Plan" paragraph 4 states: "Several key initiatives have already been announced since December 2000. These include an overall 15 percent, reduction in material costs;... " Any guesses where those materials are coming from?

So, was I supposed to have hood insulation on my '99?

Jetson, I think so. I have all these options listed on this thread on my 2001 that was built in March 2000. Although I don't think yours was deleted because of any mandated cutbacks by DC at the time. Try going to your dealer and getting them to give you what you paid for. And remember, when pronouncing DaimlerChrysler, the Chrysler is silent.

Jetson,
If your '99 truck is an 'ST' then it probably doesn't have hood insulation. If it's an SLT,then I wonder why it's missing?

What a bunch of cry babies! #ad

1) The passenger side rear grab handle is 100% useless for getting into, or out of the vehicle, IMHO.

2) No plastic trim on the tail gate? Do you really need it? I kinda would have preferred my truck NOT to have the plastic trim - it's one more thing that needs Armorall.

3) Sheesh! No cab clearance lights on 2500's? I gotta ride the boat and be a cry baby myself about this one. I have clearance lights on my '00 2500, and I like the look of 'em.

4) Never seen a amber fire pearl truck. I can see why they said the color was "unpopular".

Can't wait to see what the 2006 Dodge has in store. #ad

I wish I had known that all these deletions had taken place... I found out only after I ordered a 2001 and picked it up. The underneath side of my hood where the insulation used to be the paint is dull or flat... it looks cheap! How come the price of my truck cost more even though Dodge deleted all these items? Duh!! Dodge is gonna lose me as a customer if they dont wake up and realize that if it wasnt for ME (the customer) they wouldnt have a job!!!

Hey hammong, watch it! I resemble that statement. #ad

Ops, Jetson, MikeR might onto something there. In the 1999 sales brochure for 2500's, the "Hood, inter panel (packaged with diesel engine)" looks like it is included with the ST package and is standard with all other packages. For the "Heavy-Duty (packaged with diesel engine)" it shows a "P" for all packages. The brochure says "P = Available within package noted. " It never says it's optional which I take to mean it better come with the truck! I could be reading that wrong. You know these brochures are so easy to read and understand. (especially if you're a salesperson!) And yes, I know that Dc can change the specifications without notice, but if other trucks are showing up with the insulation, you should have it too!

I have a 2001. 5 built in Kansas and got the hood insulation,Grab bar,& rear cupholder. No ligted vanity mirror but it went with some option I didn't order. I got no surprises except I got the rear disc brakes that I was not expecting. Maybe it was how the truks were ordered. My dealership spelled out what I was getting and if I would not have gotten what he told me I would not have accepted the truck or he would have ajusted the price to reflect what was missing.

Just think all those items now being deleted from late 2001 trucks will soon show up as options at added $$$$ for Dumbler or is that German Daimler.

Thank you I will keep my 1997 it has those already installed.

Hammong, just wait a little while. You will eventually see an amber-fire ram and it will blow you away just how cool this color is. (Hey, I think so anyway). I should be getting my digital camera next week and I will upload some pictures soon.

My truck was ordered at the end of July and built at the end of September. I have the forward passenger handle but not the upper one. The rear cup holder is there as well as the hood insulation. The side trim ends at the rear quad door and I don't have the tailgate strip. I don't think my truck would look as sharp with that big black stripe on it, but maybe I just want more of that orange showing. I also don't have the lighted vanity mirrors, but the driver's side one is just about usless anyway. I get better results by leaning over and using the rear view.

The only thing I (my wife) missed was the upper R grab handle. So I installed one. Easy to do and very cheap. I gladly give up the other things for the 4 wheel discs, they are a huge improvement over the 99's brakes. I also noted on an earlier post that the camper package had 1 less overload spring, however my new truck seems to handle the load better with 1 spring than my 99 did with 2 overload springs. The 2001. 5 addressed all the issues I hated with my 99. I am completely satisfied with the new rig.

More From Dodge

Here is what Dodge has to say about all the stuff they are deleteing from our trucks, yet charging us more for.

Robert,

As stated in my prior e-mail, DaimlerChrysler holds the right to make changes, at any time, without notice or obligation, in prices, specification, equipment, color and material, and to change or discontinue models. If you paid for a specific item as an option, and that is not included on the vehicle, I suggest you speak with your selling dealership.

If only there were a way we could collectively approuch Dodge. Hum!

Bob

Interesting addition - I just picked up my truck this week - was built 05/01 in St Louis, it has Rassinni springs on it. Dodge inherited them from Mercedes light duty trucks. Nice addition, though I don't think there is anything wrong with the springs they were using. I'd like to have the rear seat cupholders. Do have the passenger grab handle. Not sure about the hood insulation. Whenever I open the hood, I just can't bring myself to look "UP".
