I just got the new Isspro's installed and it seems that it runs quite a bit hotter than my '02 did. It seems to take forever to get the egt's down to 300 before shutting down. It still has pretty low mileage.

Could it be hotter because it is closer to exhaust ports? I drilled and taped per Geno's instruction.

Could I have the Thermocouple in the incorrect position? Too far up/down. I measured and it should be right in the middle. It even seem hotter during regular operation. i can hit 1200 quick on WOT.

thanks in advance

David

the new 04. 5 and newer engines run hotter than the 03-04 engines due to the 3rd event of injection. i believe it is needed to get the cat hot [single stage oxidizing needs heat to work]. .

for your 05, those numbers sound normal, and almost anywhere in the manifold will give you similar egt readings

My second-gen truck was a V10, so I can't comment on EGTs there, but the truck in my sig can hit 1300+* pre-turbo on a WOT uphill run. Completely stock.

my 04. 5 runs just as hot (1150 to 1250) with the banks on 0(supposed to be stock, feels even slower) as it does with the banks on 4, thats on flat ground wot. My uneducated opininion about this is that the extra boost hel cool a bit and faster acceleration doesn't allow time for heat to build. I only jump on it up to about 60mph, so maybe 0 to 100 would tell a different tale.

On the topic of the thread, quite a few threads on tdr have indicated higher egt's for the 04. 5 and newer engines but they also claim that the maximum sustainable temps are higher on these motors also.

The EGT's on my 2004. 5 ran hotter than by 01. I called the dealership where I bought my RAM and they did not have a clue as to what the EGT's should be. So I called a authorized Cummins outfit. They said, according to Cummins, the EGT's on the 2004. 5 with the probe within five inches behind the turbo should not exceed 1100. When I asked what they should be in front of the turbo, the reply was "Cummins does not measure EGT in the manifold". And that was it. No further comment no matter what further questions I asked. Hopefully this guy was right. So for confirmation, I suggest we call Cummins.

Thanks for the as always helpfull input. Took the gooseneck with a load up into the hill this weekend and was surprised that it did not run as hot as expected. Good news. :) Didnt hit even 1100 on the steeps in 4th.
