My lift pump and vp44 are on their last leg and the dealer has confirmed this. Truck has 48,586 miles and is still under the 100k warranty but the dealer states that the Turbo Temp Monitor voids that warranty. Can anyone tell me what will void a warranty when you install items to prolong the life of your truck and to monitor it to ensure all of its vitals are functioning?

Thanks,

Joe

No the turbo temp monitor does not void your warranty.

The dealer is feeding you a line of crap, because it sounds like they don't want to do the work.

Take it to a different dealer or remove the temp monitor thing and get your pumps replaced.

Ask them to put in writting why they feel that it voids the warranty. I guaranty that they think that it is a timing/fuel box. Then explain to them that it has nothing to do with the fuel system and therefore cannot void the warranty on a fuel related problem. Plus the way I understand it is that the warranty is NOT an all of nothing thing.

Sometimes it helps dropping the word "lawyer" into the conversation, something along the lines of "My lawyer said that this should not void the warranty, why do u say it should?" then ask for the service managers business card.

Also remind them that they get their 5 star rating from satisfied customers and that DC sends out a questionaire for every service contact that is logged. Let them know that they will get a bad review from u and the next dealer ( their competitor) will definately get a great review upon the completion of the WARRANTY service.

These are a few things that have worked for me in the past when I wanted to play hard ball ( or atleast fast pitch wiffleball) with the dealer.

Hope this helps and good luck.

GOOD NEWS!!!

Dealer called STAR to confirm that the TTM did not void warranty and they are now going to install a new lift pump. YEAH!! Anyway, the tech said my FP gauge was actually off. He said that when they tested the pressure at the lift pump (while cranking) it was only 2-3psi and it should not be below 7psi, he said my FP gauge was reading higher. I guess I will have to get a new FP gauge when I get her back home. I am just glad that everything worked out in the end. I guess you can't blame them for cautiously approaching the $3k warranty issue, but I was still p'd off about it anyway, especially when I was just trying to protect my investment. Thanks to everyone that responded:D !

Good question

I was thinking the same thing Thomas. But after I exploded on the phone last night with them and then showed up in their office this morning things seemed to happen in my favor, especially after I explained how the TTM was only enforcing what the owners manual states about letting the engine idle for a certain amount of time after driving it.
