Here I am

Does AMSOIL "Severe Gear" have the friction Modifier ALREADY in it?

I can't seem to find that exact answer. I ordered some on the presumption that it did not. . I had problems with the old "Series 2000" in my 04. 5 because it did have it blended in there aparently. Ordered some for the 06. . I am seeing mixed results on the forums regarding this fluid causing a chatter. IF it does then I will just put it in my 02 with Dana. . thanks!

Its suppose to have some. Read their specs. Says might not need any adduitive BUT if it chatters add some. I had severe chatter with about 10k on the Amsoil Severe Gear 80w90 and had to add additive in a diff. that AAM says can't chatter! I talked to AAM whom I think thought I was off my rocker and to a Amsoil Tech assistance whom acted like he could have cared less. Carson Dodge has a web site and there is discussion about having to use a friction modifier. I never got a clear answer from AAM or Amsoil but suppose to be a D. C. bulliten addressing such but no one has shown it in print! A few say it exists and a few claim to have read it.

The AAM axles do NOT use clutches in their LS differentials, therefore the friction modifier is not required.

I know that these AA axles do NOT require it thats why I am concerned that if there is some in it, will it MAKE it chatter?? I had a similar experience in my 04. 5 with the AMSOIL series 2000. . thnaks!

It shouldn't. My understanding is the better synthetics are so "slippery" that they don't need the extra "modifier"

Well tell the non clutch diffs this info because some chatter/shudder badly. If any of you all use DTR do a search on shudder and there is a post by MADDUC describing the very same experience I did. He made a few posts in about the 6th month of this past year and never returned. Apprently Carson Dodge also has some come into service with the same issues. They added posi modifier and it took care of them.

This may be backwards? Synthetics are too slippery, so the modifier puts some friction back into the lube?

anybody?

Read Amsoils note about modifier. Theres got to be a reason. Same as Crason Dodge stating they use it for the most part. Only AAM said YOU DON"T NEED MODIFIER. I wanted to know the mechanical reason it was to be or not to be used. So far no REAL answers.

May seem like a waste but I will put the AMSOIL in there and if I get chatter like I did with my 04 then out it goes and Mobile 1 back in there. Thank goodness for the PML with the easy drain plug!

I changed to the amsoil severe gear oil in the diffs at around 12,000-14,000 miles. I changed to schaffers syn. gear oil at 30,000 miles and had a hell of a chatter. The $100 dollar plus mistake. I went straight to the dodge dealer had it changed to there syn. for now. I will go back to the amsoil severe gear oil next diff. change. coobie Oo.
