I'm ashamed to tell y'all this tale,A little Subaru pulled up beside one fair day,and of my Phat Lady sprinted away,She left that poor Subaru in a bellow of smoke,We kept her wide open, cause he wouldn't give up, we didn't give in,until we hit the wall at about 115,That subaru went on by us like we were standing still. My phat lady's self esteem has been damaged immensely. Please help us. Does any one know of any therapy that would rid her of this terrible mind block. :(

me too, but not much.

with the auto locked in OD with 265/75R16 tires, at 3000 RPM you are right at 115 MPH... . 3200 RPM you are at 123 MPH... you basicly ran out of RPM.

if you were up against a Subaru Impreza WRX, well with 227 HP in a car that only weighs 3085#..... I think you were lucky... the driver of the other car did not know what they were doing (more than likely left it in 4th or 5th when he should have dropped to third).

Next time try and race him from a dead stop. Even if he is a good driver you have him by over a second in the 1/4.

Most cars will spank a CTD on top end.

Thankyou for your replys but

You all out there, telling me you can go faster is not helping our self esteem issue . So what I'm hearing is that the limiter is more an RPM mechanical limit of the engine, and not the PCM limiters in the programing that limit MPH and RPM. I was right at 3000RPM I thought the RPM limiter of the Comp. module was 3200 so thats why I thought it was the MPH limiter shutting me down.

mdemello, YES there is a PCM speed limiter, it seems some trucks have it and some don't. Mine definitely does. It charges up to 112-114 like no tomorrow then it's like a brick wall, I can feel dramatic defueling. It drops back a couple MPH then all of a sudden the power kicks back in and it shoots up a couple MPH then sudden power cut again. According to what I calculated I should be able to do 122 before the governor kicks in.

There is a wire from the PCM that is the speed signal, but I heard cutting it cuts out your speedo. I don't recall if anyone figured out a bypass.

Hypermax or some other vendor has a reprogrammer that is supposed to work with our trucks and can defeat the speed limiter.

Me, I decided it would be good to leave it in place so I don't go out and kill myself :D

Cutting the wire between the PCM and Cummins ECM does not mess up the speedo, and will disable the limiter on a 2001 truck.

If you're serious about those speeds, the next step is an overdrive unit to bring the RPM's down and allow more speed.

I would also thing about some speed rated tires. . :D

I raced on of them thar silly little WRX Imperzas the other day and guess what... . he spanked me bad. That car freakin flies... . I did have some wheel spin and all so he got the jump on me, but towards the top end he was pulling away. Very Fast little cars.

I wonder what?

life would be like with the 3. 07 gears some of the first gen trucks had ?humm 3200rpm 3. 07r&p 315 tires:D

Hi Keith,

I haven't cut the wire yet as I forgot which wire, and want to make sure that I cut the right wire. Would you mind letting me know which wire it is?

just purchase some larger injectors and install them. You will go past you 115 mph limit with ease. When you get those injectors... break them in on a vacation to Virginia beach.

have fun

I cut mine and put connectors on each end just in case something strange happend. No difference in any functions except now I can go over 120. Gear Venders Overdrives are cool. I think it was the Orange with black stripe over the valve cover against the firewall.

Mine will do 119 on 5x5 with 6-speed, 265's, 3. 55, and stock injectors.

Most punks give up around 100 or so.

I had a ricer to play with the other night, but the roads were wet and I had to run 3x5 to get any traction at all. He gave a big thumbs up before he turned off.

Good thing, we were headed for open road.

I haven't found this to be true. When my truck was stock it would run up to 115 or so and that would be it. BOMBed it with DD2 injectors and van Aaken box and once again, runs up to 115 and that's it. With the injectors and box, it just makes the shutdown at 115 all the more dramatic. Drops back a couple mph and WHOOOM! Power kicks back in and shoots me back to 115 then cuts out again.
