Front Limited Slip

Last truck I owned with LS in the front diff was a 90 Bronco full size Eddie Bauer Edition. My friend now owns the truck and has had no problems with it. It was a great truck for me and I hated parting with it. Ordered with the 5. 8 liter V8 and pulled really strong, plenty of low end grunt. Cannot agree that all Fords are not quality vehicles, owned quite a few and always gave good service. The Cummins Diesel is why I bought a Dodge, nothing else.

LSD's

I have LSD's front and back! Installed by a local shop my clutch pack are ALL metal instead of the fiber crap dodge puts in stock! I love the way it digs in the snow and mud! The only draw back is on ice... . wow:--), it allways want to goes in a straight line so you have to be very careful going around corners on slick roads. But hey I just go in 2 wheel drive then! I love the combination and would recommend it if you need the extra traction. And by the way the 2002 does not have an axle disconnect.

My OEM clutches are all metal. Wonder if they changed at some point. It sure works good.

As i understand the situation, not ALL 2002 trucks lack the CAD. I believe they CAD was discontinued on trucks built after 1 Jan 02.



Regardless, the sure way to check is to see if you have a vented front diff cover. The presence of this vent on my truck means i for sure do NOT have the CAD on my '02, built in July 02.

I believe your right Hohn, I have '02 with CAD and the build date is 10/01

When you are in 2x4 the ring and pinion and driveshaft dont turn. The spider gears sit there spinning away. If you are going 60mph in 2x4, the shafts at the CAD are each going the same speed, just opposite directions. When you shift into 4x4 the drveshaft, pinion and ring spin at the right speed and the inner passanger axle shaft changes directons and when the splines line up, the CAD locks it together.

Putting a spool in the front is also asking for a broken wrist or arm, maybe it isn't so bad with power steering, but I've seen a few mud trucks that did that and if the wheels are turned in the mud and a tire catches, the tires will want to go straight in a hurry. The steering wheel will spin with some really good force when that happens.

Also you might want to try changing the rear end fluid and not add so much friction modifier. My factory lsd will spin both wheels even if one is on dirt and the other is on tar.
