I am looking for someone in California (Bay Area) if possible that has the miller spaner tool for the 5th gear nut (4wd). I had one lined up but it is lost so I need one quick.

Quit looking guys, Thanks to the GOOD people at South County Chrysler in Gilroy Ca I was able to borrow theirs.

BPINE, what did you find when you got in there? Was the nut still tight? What nut did you replace it with? I picked up the D. C. replacment nut and some Amsoil to refill. I want to check out the condition of the nut befor May Maddnes.

Hey Bob The nut was so tight it took me and little old HVAC everything we had to get it off. Yes I put on the replacement nut and washer from Dodge. The 5th gear slid right off the shaft and I think that's not good, we will see.

How many miles on yours? My nut was tight and the gear had to be tapped off using a brass hammer. 98K on mine.

60k I bet it has been like that since it was new, there is no way it has been wearing it was way to tight for that.

Now I wonder if I should mess with mine. I have 86,000 mi and have not towed more than 10% of that. I have 4. 10 gears so I don't spend a lot time in 5th under 2,000 RPM . I was going to change it out as preventive maintenance, but now have second thoughts. What do you all think

Hey Bob I think it is a catch 22 you will kick yourself if it falls off but mine was so tight I don't think it could have fallen off. I think I am more worried since I have messed with it. All though it should be better with the washer and split nut. I don't tow in 5th gear much either below 2000 rpm.
