Does Anyone have a Viper Remote Start with a wts input on 1998.5-2001?

I'm having a discussion with a local installer about whether or not the wait to start light input can be used on a viper remote starter. If anyone has any information at all about using the wts as an input I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Remote start

I had a Clifford alarm put in, It is almost the same as the viper, with the exception of the key pad. On some 01's and later models, they have had problems with the trucks computer going bad when they hooked into the wait to start light. and because of the warranty, they have to pay for a new computer, allot of them now are just putting in a timer, it can be set for 5,10,15, or 20 seconds. works just as good.

Is the WTS a direct hook up TnL?

TnL ,

Thanks for the information this is just what I was looking for. Now do you know if it is a direct hookup into the remote from the wts or did they have to do something special to the signal first?

Thanks for all the info I appreciate it!

I don't believe there was anything special to do at all. But im sure if you call DEI the makers of Viper they can tell you exactly what to do

Thanks for the info

Gmaines,

This may be the reason they hooked it up with a timer thanks. I didn't realize there may be a problem like this. But when I had it installed I insisted that the wts be hooked up and they said no problem. Once I had it installed I realized they hooked it up with a timer and charged me an extra $35. 00 for the timer to boot! This would be fine in some places in the world. But weather changes here are pretty extreme and can be anywhere from -20 in the winter to 100 in the summer. So the wts signal would give it a much better shot at starting the first time.

Thanks for the info!

TnL you are quick!

I downloaded the manual and it looks like a direct connection, nothing to it. They might not have hooked it up because of what GMaines has posted above! Tomorrow we shall see!

Thanks again!

Ask them... I haven't had a problem in the 6 months I have had my system. It works like a charm!! when it was warm over the summer it would start almost instantly, and now that it is freezing its takes a few seconds, but as soon as the WTS goes off the truck fires right up

And The Problem is?

The problem seems to be that the wait to start light input is a positive signal that for a split second switches to negative and then back to positive again. To prevent this output switching from burning up there remote start system they would need to install a diode to prevent the negative signal from getting through to the remote start unit. The problem is that once this diode is installed the only way to test it is to turn the truck on. If it is installed incorrectly and the truck is turned on the ecm will be burned up! I guess I'll stay with the timer it works pretty good anyhow. I hope this information helps you guys out that were in the same boat I was. Good Luck

Touchdown

Ok today I finally got my installer to talk to someone at Dodge and he figured out where to get the wait to start wire input from. WTS light goes out and truck starts then I press the aux button on the remote and it goes to 1250 rpm's with the dieselservices.com high idle kit. Works awesome but this setup isn't cheap. Thanks to everyone who has helped me on here and behind the scenes.

Good Luck

My 99 has factory keyless entry and security. Which remote start will work in conjunction with this so I won't have to carry two remotes?

Thanks,

Greg
