I don't know about your warranty, but if you get caught tampering with smog equipment, it's a BIG federal fine. I've seen between $2500 and $10,000! Sounds about right. In the big scheme of things, I'd be more worried about that than the warranty.

the dreaded asbestos catalytic convertor

so do any states have sniffer tests for diesels?

i've never heard this before ...

i've spoke with folks who've had an "opacity" test, i think that's what they said ...

Washoe, Clark, and apparently Nye in Nevada do the opacity test. It's a joke. It is totally dependant on how hard the tester romps on the go pedal. If he eases into it, no problem. Even on my lightly modded 97, you could romp on it and be OK. Passing was under 20 or 30 or something. Mine was under 1. Another way to suck $$$ out of our pockets. If it's that big a deal, all vehicles should get smogged everywhere. If it's not a big deal, leave us alone!

The CAT for an 06 is $1030 retail. Before I ruined it I would remove it properly and save it for the future if required.

And just for info the 07 CAT is $1820!
