Does high idle still have to be activated after 18-037-04 installed?

I had the 18-037-04 installed last Thursday and it seems to have been done successfully. My fuel milage is up (on the overhead) and I think the shifting seems to be smoother. The high idle does not work even though the tech said it was installed together with the 18-037-04. He said since mine was an 04. 5 that he didn't have to install the seperated TSB for high idle that it was included with the TSB for milage and white smoke.

My questions are 1. is the tech right, and 2. if the tech was right do I have to get the high idle activated before it will work? Thanks for any info :)

When they installed the 18-004-04 TSB on my truck (one with High idle) the tech had to do a seperate pass once the TSB was installed to go in an enable it. The base code in the flash has the option disabled by default.

No high idle for 6 speed because they don't have a servo controller doing the speed controll. The High Idle when activated uses the servo controller to pull the accelerator linkage to increase the idle speed. The reason there is no High Idle on the 03 trucks with an automatic trans is because the ECM didnot do the speed control fuction in that year the PCM did Speed control and operated transmission. Starting with 04 the ECM runs engine and controls transmission and does speed control.

I had the 18-037-04 installed and I've looked for the ECM but can't seem to put my eyes on it. Where is located.

Help me out guys after I had the TSB 18-037-04 installed the high idle works as advertised in the owners manual, after two minutes if engine temp is cold it picks up to 1000 rpm. I thought I read in an earlier post that you could speed up the enigne when parked using the cruise control, is that true.

Worth noting about TSB 18-037-04; Up side after install when I filled up I hand calculated a 1. 5 mpg increase and engine seems a little quitier and turbo lag seems slightly less. Down side the computer milage is reading higher than hand calcualted by 1 mpg. This data is based one fillup after TSB.

Also I can't seem to locate the ECM to verify that the tech. installed the updated ECM sticker to reflect the software change to the ECM.

On another note has anyone tried the TAG III yet. From an earlier posting I read that it redcues the turbo lag which is good. On the East coast the on ramps can be very short.

My 04 6 Speed has a high idle feature when it is cold out. If it can jump up to 1,000 RPM, what prevents the same device that controls it now from being operated via the cruise control?

I have had TSB 18-037-04 installed, and am very happy with it. When I had it done, I asked the dealer to enable the high idle, and he said "sure!". When I went to pick it up, he told me they tried to enable it, but it "wouldn't take" whatever that means.

If there are any techs in the DFW area, let me know who you are, and where you work, so I can request you. I would love to have a service department I could trust and rely on.

You have to have the manual control high idle feature activated at the dealer. I had it done after the TSB was completed. I believe (from only doing it a couple of times) it works like this:

1. Start engine

2. Turn on Cruise Control (left button)

3. Hit Set (left button- this will activate the high idle 1000 RPM)

4. Use the accel/coast (right button) to control RPMs (+/- 100 RPM increments)

Is this high idle on the 600's done thru the DRB tool? I had the new flash installed on Monday, but they could not find the high idle to turn it on. I want this feature!!!

On another note, the fuel efficiency is way up. I have 575 miles on this tank and I still have just over a 1/4 tank on the dial. The most I have gotten before the flash has been about 625 miles. Looks like 700+ miles from a tank is possible finally.

Here is the picture from the shop manual showing the drivers side engine fuel system components. Item 18 is the ECM.

the tech just needs to enable it. i had my high idle done before the upgrade and when they did the TSB upgrade it shut it off again. I pulled back in the shop and 5 minutes later it was re-enabled.

I tried the manual high idle per your direction and its not working so back to the dealer I guess. T

thanks for your help.
