Hey guys, just wondering if the CP3 has any internal screens or filters, or possibly something between it and the rail. My buddy snapped the shaft that drives the low pressure gear pump on his '06. He's got a new pump, but I'm wondering if we need to worry about metal shavings possibly getting to the injectors? Looking for any advice here for what else may need to be cleaned and or replaced. Thanks in advance!!

There's no filters in the CP-3, but each injector line has an "edge" filter on it just before the injector. Just a little mesh screen to break up particles before the injector eats them.

So do you think it would be safe to clean out the edge screens, rail, and all the lines and call it good?? I would just hate to put it all back together and get an injector lodged open. I guess I'm really wondering if we need to pull the injectors and have a shop clean and test them.

My personal opinion is "probably". Particles shed by the CP-3 after the pump broke are probably pretty large.

Here's what I'd do. I'd take apart the injector lines and carefully examine the screens for any sign of debris. If I found any, I'd then remove the injectors and have them serviced.

Thanks Ryan. That's what I was thinking. Hopefully everything looks ok when we pull it apart. Thanks again for your help.

The CP3 pump's on the 04. 5 and newer do have a small screen in them. You have to take the pump off and if you turn the pump and look at the aluminum housing part and look for a plug that take's a torq's bit and the screen is inside there attached to the end of the plug.

If you suspect you have any contaminates it is always wise to pull the lines and fuel rail and flush them out. Remove the connector tubes and tap the inlet side on a white piece of paper to see if anything is stuck inside. Throughly clean and blow dry and then reassemble.

The edge filter is a plug with a hairline gap around part of the plug. The fuel squeezes thru there. Particles are eventually crushed and jammed thru the gap. It's not made to handle a lot of particles at once.
