I'm getting ready to remove my transmission and rebuild it and have been going through the shop manual procedure. It says to remove the Crankshaft Position Sensor but doesn't specify why. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this? I will take it out if needed but I would like to save the trouble if I can. Thanks

the ckp sensor on a diesel is in the side of the block. the gassers is between the bell housing and block. coming out isnt a big deal. going in is a hassle. no need to worry on a diesel.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, I thought it was rather odd that it had to be removed. Yes it is the truck in my signature that is getting the new trans. One less thing to worry about.

The factory manual also tells you to remove the starter which is toally unecessary but I would remove the battery cables for safety's sake.
