Does anyone know if the new 2004. 5 600 has stainless exhaust? I know it now comes stanard with 4" diameter from turbo back, but is it stainless? Also, want to dump the cat asap! Is there a replacement bolt on 4" straight throgh pipe available to replace the cat? Please don't quote EPA standards, don't care and more importantly, it only matters if you're forced to live in one of those communist states that do enforce such things. Love the smell of diesel in the AM... . Just my thoughts. Thanks,

Tman

Yes I'm sure it's stainless tman. Dodge has used stainless from the factory for several years now, at least back to '98 model year that I'm aware of.

I know it's a popular notion to ditch the cat, but I would give it a chance to do its job. Put an EGT gauge on there and load your truck down and see how it does. If EGTs are fine then I doubt you'll see much performance improvement neutering the kitty. I think where issues will come up is when guys add boxes/injectors and make more soot will it possibly become a restriction, but only time will tell if this ends up being the case.

Do you have a '600' on order? :D

Does anyone know if the inlet and outlet of the kitty are in a straight line with each other? If they are, there should be no problem getting a piece of 4 inch pipe at your local semi tractor dealer.

As far as stainless pipe goes, my 95 had stainless from the turbo down to the cat. But it's a kind of stainless that gets a rust film on the outside and then rust no further.

I don't think the '03s have fully-stainless... I think it's just to the muffler, then it's aluminized from there back. Am I wrong? And the turbo exhaust elbow is definetly not stainless (it's grey cast iron).

rbattelle,

I think you're right (about the tailpipe anyway). I believe DC only uses SS on gassers. On diesels, it isn't as important because the film that gets built up on the inside of the pipe helps to prevent corrosion.

Anybody?

At least partially right, Dave;) .

If I remember correctly, the main reason that the manufacturers "gave" us the stainless steel exhausts in the first place was because of the heat generated by the catalytic converter in the exhaust system. Now that the "600" has the kitty kat, who knows:confused:
