I am searching for a shop in So Cal to buy the BD X-Monitor and install it. I found a local shop and the BD X-Monitor is $448 and labor to install it is $280. I figured the only involved part of the install is drilling for the Pyro. Is this what the average rate for gauge installs is about?

I know my way around gassers and did all my own work on my last Ford. I know 2 stroke dirt bikes even better but when it comes to this: MY FIRST DIESEL, I'm totally intimidated to take charge.

sounds a bit high should only take an hour or two even at 80 an hour thats 160. why dont you do it your self I'll loan you the drill and tap for the pyro. Im in Lomita so your close.

I have the tools but really don't want to mess things up. I am a horrible driller. Can't tell you the countless times I've screwed stuff up drilling or dremeling.

I guess this job takes about 3 hours so the labor would be about right. If I just paid it and something was done wrong, well I can blame someone other than myself. This is something I got to think about for a while.

$765 for BD X-Monitor installed sounds wayyy steep or maybe I'm just cheap.

FOR ANYONE WHO HAS INSTALLED THEIR OWN GAUGES:

Is it really an involved job or more like 2 wrenches on a scale of 1 to 5.

I do not have the X monitor but I installed my own gauges, it took a while like maybe 5 hours total. Half the time was spent figuring out how to run the wires and zip tying everything so it was nice and neat. It's pretty easy, if you have installed a car stereo before this is about the same. I try to do a nice neat job, whenever I pay someone to do something I could have done myself I am rarely happy with it and end up wishing I had done it myself. Plus if there is a problem I know how everything is setup.

KHorikawa,

Cosidering what I paid for the X-Monitor (fuek pressure version) and installation, I think you are getting a good deal. Took the shop about 4 hours to install but they did do a nice job.

When you add the fuel pressure version, do you lose the transmission temp or can you toggle back and forth?

You get one or the other - and their different part numbers. With an automatic you want the trans temp. I have the 6 speed so went with the fuel pressure.
