Hey guys,

Well I finally had someone look at my truck yesterday. I had a guy show up in another first gen to look at my truck, and I noticed something wierd about his truck, and asked him a question. What he told me was that he won his truck, and a trailer by being the champion calf roper on a profesional rodeo circuit back in 1993,and that his truck is one of a kind. He said it was the only 93 single rear wheel 1 ton ever made, and that dodge never made single rear wheel 1 tons until recently. I thought this to be strange as I am sure when I was looking at getting a crew cab that I found some single wheel 1 tons from the early to mid 80's. Is he right about his truck(I assume he would know)?

He had also done something wierd to the rear axle. He had a set of duallys on it,but he still had the regular bed on it. He told me he shortened the axle, and put the duals on it to help with stability. It looked strange, but cool at the same time. The poor truck looked beat though, and he told me he got into an accident a few weeks back with it,and made a Honda Accord into a Honda Accordian. Not only that but the bed was all beat up as well, but it ran good. Thanks in advance.

champion calf roper on a profesional rodeo circuit

Now I like rodeo a lot but I tend to think this calf roper is more into bull than calf.

I may have had the exact title or discipline wrong but none-the-less he won the truck.

He's full of calf crap!! I know of 2 93 w350 single wheel trucks within 30 miles of me, they're not as common as the w250 but they made plenty.

My point exactly. Still think it is bull and not calf.

Allright so I wasn't just going crazy when I thought he was full of bull. He also told me that my NV4500 was used in the first gens, and that the getrag that came out of it must have been a different transmission hat someone swapped in. he claimed to be an expert in old Cummins truck, but he clearly was mis-informed.

I also pointed out that I had the factory tach which is a tough thing to find now,but he swore I was crazy, and that you could not get a tach from the dealer back then.

Thanks for all the input.

Chris

I had a single rear wheel 1 ton 89. It did not come with a tach. The factory tach's were not an option until the LE option came out in 90 or 91. The Getrag 5 speed was the only manual transmission until the 94 Second gen came out.

As far as adding a tach to a first gen - buy a diesel tach and pick up the speed by adding a proximity sensor to the flywheel starter teeth or flex plate. That's what I did back in 1990.

Also addede power windows and door locks from a Dodge RamCharger. The wiring is already in the base model trucks and it was an easy add. I think my parts came out of a 1984 Ramcharger and fit fine in the 1989 truck. Also added a center console and seat bases from the Ramcharger as well. .

Good luck.

When people are isolated from a core group of others with any particular special anything, They tend to come up with or believe crap that feels good. As they are the experts to those that don't know any better. Did he also try to tell you that Ford owns Cummins? That would be typical BS from that type.

IF the run of the mill Dodge salesman (as has been REPEATEDLY reported here!) often knows so little about the product they live with and sell daily, why would ANY member here be surprised and critical that a rodeo competitor would be capable of so small an error in his assumption - especially when it's a given that the single wheel 3500's WERE pretty uncommon in those years?

I've seen FAR worse errors on the part of supposed "experts", to not get all worked up over what a casual owner or observer might put out as his honest assumption or opinion... ;) :p

Gary, they were D250 and D350 in those years - no 2500 or 3500 89-93. :D

na ya'll are confused the roper guy is absolutley right and ya'll just think these other trucks are 350 srw when in reality they just put different badges on them like ford owners put 550 badges on their 250 truck. i also think that this roper is full of bull i dont know of any srw 350 dodges but i have heard of a few.

Yup - but same difference as far as "opinions" and errors go - and yes, my '91 was a D250... :-laf

Just nothing to get a guys undies all in a bunch over...

Hell - one of my Ford lovin' buds STILL insists his truck is better than mine - but I sure don't figure to lose any sleep over HIS mistake, either! :-laf :-laf

Couldn't have said it any better myself !! :-laf

Mine's a '92 D350, srw. Maybe he has the only one where he lives, on the Neverland Ranch with a fruit cup!

most of the tach sensors strap to the alternator.

I have a 1985 srw crewcab d350 so yeah they were made but i have a question for all of you out there was there ever a w350 4x4 longbed crewcab made ? from what I understand Dodge only made the short bed ? Am I right or wrong ????????

The truck I just bought is an '89 LE built on 4-26-89. So then a tach could have been an option on this truck? Hmmm, I think i just found $omething I need ;)
