I agree with darkhorse, I just put mine in saturday, the injectors feel bigger. Infact with the pump, smarty, and 1. 5's it feels like it has more power than the old pump, injectors, and smarty/comp stacked. The idle is a little choppy when cold, but after it warms up it is smooth.

Towing? How are your EGT's towing if you have a comp on level 2 or 3? That is about what the HRVP equals for fueling.

I can tow at speed through the siskyous with about 8k and do ok with EGT's. But I cannot get on the skinny pedal too quick without the temps getting up there pretty quick. Time for a new turbo for me. Just haven't decided what one yet.

Ok, I have installed the smarty in my truck, cleaned up the idle a little but still very choppy trying to drive in 4 low with a 7000 pound horse trailer is a joke! Egts are very high. I have played with the smarty on it, it is a real kick on the street but for pullin or slow driving forget it. Dont get me wrong I do like smokin the ricers but when you want to turn it down to tow some wait you cant. I have not even hooked on to my toy box not with this pump. I am going back to a stock pump. I will keep the smarty and my edge comp (that has not even been turned on)

Some girls love the lope!

The HRVP is not recommended for towing.

Doug Smith

Doug is correct, but..... my wife has learned to appreciate and enjoy the setup. The HRVP44 is not for towing parade floats thru the town square that is for sure!

On the humorous side my Wife and her friend were stopped at a DOT safety check in Marshall, VA last week towing the 35' Sundowner horse trailer. The Cummins was loping and surging like a locomotive while in line for inspection.

The enforcement guy leans up to the window and tells my wife that the truck is not running quite right. Her passenger proudly replies "Her Husband has this thing souped up and it runs great. " :D

There is no need for turning the Edge box on while towing with the Mach 1. 6's & the Hotrod44 combination. It will blow allot of smoke on 3-5 and the EGT's grow unruly with the tiny stock turbo with the J-hooked waste gate.

Thank you Doug for installing and recommending the II HRVP44. Now with 25K miles of "only" towing in the past 7 months.

Yes it does lope, but the power drives the girls Mad!

In the same towboat. . LOL. I can run down the road like a scalded dog towing the 11K horse trailer. No need for the box with the Mach 1. 6's and the HRVP44. With my stock turbo J-hooked, turning the Edge on 3-5 setting heats up and I don't feel anymore power. 1-2 setting is good for kicking an occasional ricer and smoking a left lane hog. I am very, very ready for the replacement of my newest weak link. Tired of driving with one eye fixed on the EGT gauge. Lookin at the HTB2 62-12 for my maticmission.

I don't remember you saying that it isn't for towing!

I have been towing with it though. Just need a bigger turbo to keep it cool.

I can only hear mine lope at idle, and the idle is a little higher, especially when cold.

Other then that, it runs SMOOTH. Even lugging it under the idle speed and the ECU kicking up the throttle, it's still smooth. Smokes though ;)

My biggest problem with turbo choice is keeping my exhaust brake.

Of course I haven't even tapped my wire yet. Not sure if it's worth it. My turbo obviously can't keep up, so I never bothered with it.

Btw, how much of a difference does the comp do with the HRVP?

Have a customer that has had one on for about a year and a half. Loves it. With the 275 RVs it makes great power, and mileage and temps were reasonable. I even stole it from him to pull my 13k lb 5th wheel to Oregon and it had no issues at all. Great mileage pulling and no temp issues. Idle smooth, just a little faster is all. All this with the stock HY35. Runs nice.

Thats normal. The VP quits injecting fuel completely during deceleration, and as you torque converters slips it will keep the engine speed at or above idle. above idle, no fuel gets injected. At idle fuel gets injected to maintain idle speed.

The 7. 3L Fords do te same ting, just more pronounced.

SOUND BITE of HRVP44

Does anybody have a sound clip of the HR pump with the lope? I would like to hear it to see how bad it is. Thanks

Here ya go!

Erratic Lift Pump Pressures--What do you think??

I relocated a new lift pump to frame rail (Vulcan kit) about 8 months ago and pressures were / are great 14. 5-15 psi at idle, about 13. 5 at 70 mph... never below 13 psi.

In the last 3 weeks or so I am seeing the pressure at 14-15 at start up and drops to 6-7 psi at idle. I punch the go pedal pretty good and get it back to 14-15, but at idle it wants to drop to 6-7 spi with a different pitched hum that I can hear below my seat (relocated lift pump).

Driving pressures are good... 13-14. 5 psi, it is just at idle that I see the fuel pressure drop and notice (listening closely) a different pitch of the Carter pump below my seat. I have a couple of spares below the seat so I guess I will swap it out and go from there.

I have checked to ensure good connections(both ends)with the provided electrical harness of the Vulcan relocation kit...

Any ideas... your thoughts / opinions would be much appreciated!

Wow. That would annoy the psis out of me.

Glad you posted it though, I would have bought one if my VP goes out.

HMMM? P-pump it is!

After playing around with my truck, if I have it in neutral, and rev it slightly, say around 1500 rpm, ish. I can get a pulsating of the engine.

But the never does it when I am actually accelerating. Only while it maintains an rpm higher then idle.

AHoltzclaw, have you gotten any of the newer ULSD in your area? If so, it could be cleaning out the system and getting gunk in your pump/filters.
