The Jacobs Ebrake on my 2003 causes a whistle at the end of my exhaust pipe.

Some people have suggested that a whistle sound caused by the Ebrake may be a sign of a leak at the joints where the Ebrake connects to the turbo and/or exhaust pipe.

With Mopar's current halt to Jacobs installations, I'm wondering if the whistle sound may be an indication that the Ebrake connection surfaces at the turbo/exhaust pipe are not flush and therefore causing a problem.

I posted earlier that you should inspect your truck if you hear this noise at road speeds... . I have 5 trucks that run PacBrake..... and we install them... .

At idle and doing a walk around... you will hear the air rushing through the valve... after all the exhaust pipe is like a sound tube..... and the noise travels down the tube...

But if you hear this going down the road... I'd give it some attention... . I guess that I test drive at least one a week... . and I hear the action of the exhaust brake in that the engine lugs down... .

We ask each customer to return for a recheck of the fasteners..... If I suspect a problem I'll use a hose... . putting one end to my ear and the other near the edge of the two mating parts... I never allow anything up the hose. . it's past the end... like blowing over the edge of a pop bottle...

Hope this has helped clearify my thoughts for you.....

BTW I don't think the dealers could check for this problem... ... at least those that don't install exhaust brakes... . ask them to refer you to someone who does lots of installs... .

Hi Jim,

What do you mean when you say "if you hear this going down the road"? Mine makes the sound whenever the Ebrake is "engaged" either sitting still at idle or going down the road at idle. When the Ebrake is disengaged i. e. either in the off position or under acceleration there is no noise. Also, the noise is clearly coming from the end of my exhaust pipe not the location of the Ebrake.

It sounds like everyones ebrake is working rite. When it's engaged, all of your exhaust is trying to get through about a 3/8" hole instead of a 3. 5 inch pipe so it whistles.

I feel like I'm looking for a problem that doesn't exist, paranoia.

When Mopar/Cummins/Jacobs takes action like halting installation of the Ebrake they need to be much more responsive in following up with a detailed description of the problem in a timely manner! They owe it to us customers who already have the Ebrake installed.

Sounds normal to me. I have a Banks exhaust brake & when engaged it sounds like an air leak comming out the tail pipe. It's not going to sound like my engine brake on my n-14 460 cummins in my big rig. :-laf

The sound is normal when the brake is engaged and very noticeable if you stand in back of your vehicle. Sounds like a bad air leak.
