In neutral or park, box on or off. 100+ HP injectors (multiple sets and brands).

Stand on the go pedal out of gear, sounds like there is a dead cylinder. Has done this since forever. Also, it takes some rpm before the truck seems to "catch up" and spin hard.

I have replaced the VP in the las few months and did the cam sensor at the same time. Previous to that, IAT and MAP. Both were bad.

Any ideas? If fuels hard from a light, but sometimes it feels better than others from a dead stop. Very hard to describe, but my buddies trucks do not do this with bigger sticks than me.

I have had it for 50k miles. It seems to be more noticable with a standard transmission because I am in nuetral more than the auto guys. When I start to slip my clutch (kind of like a converter in an auto) it is smooth and does not miss at all.

But at idle with the clutch pedal out it will miss and I can stand on the skinny pedal just like you and get the "miss" or uneven firing out of it.

But under load and while driving it is smooth as silk.

BTW, mine has done this with Jammer 4s and supermentals. It is the reason I took the 4s out. I thought they were the problem. Even rebuilt and had them pop tested to 305 bar TWICE!. A friend threw them in his truck and they were smooth at idle, so he bought them from me. Then I got the Supermentals and they acted the same way.

My truck does this with no box, with my old comp and with the new Smarty. No box ever made a difference with this for me.

Also, i have the factory VP and never replaced any sensors.

112k miles so far. Some people have given me some leads to follow to attempt to fix this, but is just hasn't bothered me enough to put the time into it. Truck pulls great and gets decent mileage considering my old supermentals and 35" tires (about 17 or 18 mpg around town).

Good luck.

Jason

on edit, I did throw the stock sticks in between injector changes and it was much less pronounced. I really think the big sticks at leas make the problem more noticable. Most threads that I have read or posted about this take place right after an injector upgrade. Usually to 100+hp injectors...

My truck pulls harder sometimes than others. Almost like it's cutting fuel back, then it gives it. Like if I was wide open and I flipped my chip on, off and on again... it feels like that, only not to that extreme, but it is very noticible. I don't enen know when it started, but it was definately after the mach 4's and the sps 64. Oh and I don't think it matters if my box is on or off either. I had thought it was defueling, but why the surge back in power? Like it "clears out" and takes off like a bandit. It never stays at the lower power though, it always clears out.

I've seen that problem caused by the ECM more than just one time.

New memory chips have always fixed that problem.

Dunno if that's your case but since you've already swapped out almost everything else... Food for thought.

Thanks for the reply Marco.

I have tried 2 different ECMs. Both out of an '02. One has been Catcherized and the other my stock ECM. Currently it has the Smarty in it.

Could this also be linked to power output issues?

Dave

If you have tried two different ECM's and the problem is there with both...

keep in mind altough I've seen that problem several times, it's still a very RARE thing! Two ECM's in a row with it, I don't believe that's possible.

Thanks Marco. I appreciate the response.

Is it possible the PCM has anything to do with this?

Dave

I dont think that it is the ECM. I have had this problem for over a year. I have tried 3 ecm's and a different PCM. Still the same crap. I have this crazy 0501 that will not go away. I have changed both speed sensors, apps, iat, and all of the normal stuff that everyone changes and still the same thing. Its really annoying. I can say that when i run the smarty on 8 stacked with my edge ez on 3 it is not as noticable. I am looking towards the Anti-lock brake controller for the code issue and i am hoping that when i figure that out, all of my other problems will go away. . ?. . ! I do notice that when my grid heaters cycle hard that the truck is more apt to run bad. I gave up about 3 weeks ago on trying to figure it out. Tired of racking my brain every night!

Good info!

Still makes me wonder if I don't have some kinda voltage issue...

Dave

That is where i am at right now. I have printed out a wiring dia. and have talked to Dave Goerand (Goerand bro's transmission) and he has found out some really good info as far as what voltage you need at different points in you wiring harness. I am going to get back at it over the weekend. hopefully i can figure something out. My 0501 is a communication issue between the two speed sensors. The output shaft sensor runs through the pcm and the differential speed sensor runs through the CAB unit for the brakes. So somewhere between these two units i have a voltage issue and i will find it. Just going to take a bit of time.

fire's out?

I have the same issues. I spoke with Justin Hohn about this same thing. I have the catcher and mach 3. 8s. He seemed to think that it had to do with too much fuel and not enough heat and that in turn nearly "putting the fire out". Stands to reason. My truck goes like hell otherwise!!

That very well could be it. I also have a stutter at cruise under light throttle. take out the Smarty and it dissapears. It's rythmic, so I have no idea what the cause is. I'll try some of the other Smarty settings and see if it gets any better.

Without knowing the inputs that affect the Smarty directly, It's gonna be hard to diagnose.
