Hi guys, I some of you know my German Shepherd was found to have cancer a few weeks ago... He has been with me everyday and everywhere I go for the past 16 years... In his life time he has gotten to see the entire USA and parts of Mexico and Canada from the back of a first gen Dodge truck. .

He is still getting around for now. He always loved traveling with me. . So I decided to take him on one last road trip before he goes... . We headed out going South West ... . I plan on being in Texas in a few days.....

If any of you Texas guys know of any junk yards or people that have first gen trucks . Please pm or email me where they are so I can stop along the way and carry home some rust free parts... .

I know we sold a huge amount of 1st gen trucks in Texas and Oklahoma...

My dog (Lucky) loves junk yards! I tell him "find the truck" and he will find all the 1st gen Dodge trucks in the yard one by one... LOL. . He was pretty smart... I also always got a kick out of seeing him lift his leg on all the Chevy's

as well. LOL

I guess taking a dog on a 3000 mile road trip is kind of crazy. But It's all that I can think of that he really liked to do... . and I could see no point is staying home waiting for the end... .

So all you Texas guys please let me know of any place that is worth stoping for... . I still need a frame and bed for a 93 club cab 2wd. Thx... ///Terry

have a safe trip there, Terry. I haven't been to Texas except for one time in el paso playing in the UCLA marching band for the Sun Bowl...

Don't know about specific yards but I have bought two trucks and a trailer in Texas from individuals. There definitely were LOTS of them sold there. If you find yourself near Tifton Georgia be sure to get in touch. Got a dually bed that is pretty good. Some fenders and hoods also a couple of regular cabs. Some frames but no club frame.

I have a dog that travels with me. I understand completely.

Safe travels, it can be dangerous out there.

don't know much about Tx, but if you get to La there's a u-pull-it in baton rouge and another in gulfport, Ms. not alot of first gen stuff but it changes pretty regular. here lately there's been a crew of mexicans running around removing anything electrical (must be selling to refurbishers) so they get picked over pretty quick. still if you get in the area (SE La) drop me a line.

as for the dog, if he's given you the best 15 years of his life, the least you can do is take him for a ride :) . my dobe loves to ride in my truck (kinda a good thing with all the evacs we do down here). been through several great companion dogs in my life and it never ceases to amaze me how much they give.

I not only don't think it is crazy but I think you owe it to him. ;) Just think of all he has given you over the years. :) I know I owe a lot to my old German Shepard and I am doing all I can to keep her happy now that she is old and failing. I have a younger Shepard to keep her company now and I believe that is all that is keeping her alive. If traveling makes him happy then truck on and if you are in the Florida Panhandle give me a shout. Oo.

Terry,

I have three white German Shepherds and I hope I can do the amse for them when their time comes. Missy had a blown tendon through her left rear knee a couple of years ago that cost 1000 dollars to fix. A lot of people said there was no dog worth that, guess they are missing an important segment of life. I hope you and Dog have a great trip. If you find yourself in the middle of Kansas, be sure to drop by. I dread the day when one of them goes.

With a heavy heart for your situation ... . Glen

Junkyard south of Hondo

The name of the town slips my mind, but there is an awesome junk yard almost due south of Hondo. I don't know about "new" Dodge parts but I know this guy has about everything else---Perkins, Hercules, M37, International(at one time had ten IH seven cylinder engines), Leyland trannies, Clark trannies.

Yancey. Maybe that is the name of the town. Someone feel free to correct me. I haven't been there in 8 years-I was looking for a seven cyl to install in a J10. Wound up using a 345-best engine ever other than a Cummins JMO.

Hope this helps.

I just wanted to say I think it's great that you care so much for your animals, I know my pets become a part of my family, I must admit i shed a tear when i think about losing such a dear friend, do all that you can to see that they are comfortable with the time they have left. Make it a trip to remember.

Come on Down!

If you plan on making it down the the Rio Grande Valley, be glad to have you stop and say hi.

Sorry about your Shepherd, have a safe trip, and make lots of memories.

I always have had and always will have German Shepherds, they make great friends.

Interstate Dog,

Here a a few pic's of Lucky dogs last ride... He is too weak now to ride in the bed... He is now taking it easy in the club cab... ... He always liked putting his nose in the wind... I always wanted a picture of him doing that but could never quite drive he truck and take pictures at the same time. This time I was determined. So I did the old point and shoot ..... I found a CVS last night that developed while you wait and put them on disc... . The camera I used was a cvs

disposable that has 800 speed film ... The 800 film is the trick to get good pictures... ... ... .

We are in Florida right now. I found a 93 LE standard cab dually 5spd . I will be taking it back by tow bar... It will be a nice truck once I go threw it. . Only 120 K on it... It has electrical problems ,door hinge problems , ect ect but nothing major...

As for Lucky... . well ... . He has not eaten much these past few days. . It is almost over... , He is still smiling and having a good time but he is hurting... .

I will be taking him in any time now..... If he were only a Dodge truck I would know what to do... . But this one I can't fix ... ...

Our next stop will be Nashville. . I have a place there ... I plan to stay there a week. Then back to Md..... I always keep my lap top with me though...

And Flying J trucks stops have wireless internet service...

Thanks guys for all of your support... This has been a tough one for me to face...

PS: how did you guys get the big pictures to load..... It keeps telling me that my pictures are too large but the ones that you all posted are larger than mine... Whats the secret?

I have enjoyed many miles watching the fickle winds blow through the neck, face and chest hairs of my Shepherds coats. Those are times that nobody can take away. Their nose always seems to be on the hunt. Glad you guys had a chance to get out and do it again. It will be a sad day when I look in the mirror and there is no smiling face to watch anymore. Glen

Isnt it funny how dogs just love to go for rides?

It's gotten to the point that I cant even say the word "ride" around the shepherd. :-laf

Heck... if I pick up the car keys, or put on a jacket she's giving me the "look". :D

She's only two. I hope I have her for many more years.

My wife thinks I like the shep more than her. :-laf

Maybe I do... ..... ;)

If it is anything but my uniform, I have six eyes and six ears trained on every move I make. Like Eric said, the keys or shoes are about the last straw. Go or ride or park are words that get the dancers dancing.

Maybe I do... ... .

Truer words were never spoken... . :D  Glen

There is an FJ at exit two just into Georgia and 60 miles north is Tifton. Good road at an angle up to Birmingham and on to Nashville. There is a steak house, Cracker Barrel and half a dozen other possibilities for food. Love to talk Dodge with you if you have the time. I will make the time. My cell number is in your PM box.

mysteryman... Sir

You have the Good Lord looking at you with favor. All though there are many that would willing do for their 4 legged Angels what you are doing for yours, many aren't in the position or have the resources to make these last days as enjoyable as they would wish. I known this has to be taking every ounce of your strength, I just wished I was as strong.

Bless You

one more pic

Here is a pic I forgot to post... . Lucky in the back of the club cab...

well it's off to sleep . . got a long drive tomorrow

my dobe is a better traveling companion than my wife. he's gotten to the point now its way harder to keep him out of the truck than it used to be to get him in :) . best thing about him, he keeps the old lady down the street's cats off my trucks and out of my yard (she doesn't like him or me very much :-laf ).
