Question about Texas Rangers (law enforcement)

Cigars

OK I know this isn't the place but if I put under other - hardly nobody looks there --- My 13 year old lab is loosing hip control - I've had this happen before and there is a medicine that helps - can you remember what it is?????? And she has been in the best of health for all of those years - and I know about her age - but unless you've had this happen; and have never been close to a dog - you don't know how hard it is.....

You might want to check out Metacam (meloxicam). Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for oral use in dogs only. Appears to help MY dogs with hip problems, plus they like the taste.

Rimadyl

Rimadyl is the one we have used for several years. There is a relatively new one out named something like the model of Chibby truck... . Diramax or something like that, but we use Rimadyl with our 'kids'... .

Rimadyl - worked pretty good for our German Shep's hip pain. Did you take her to the vet for a checkup? The way I figure, the dogs are entitled to at least as good, if not better healthcare, than the humans. Good luck with her. The pack [see sig] and I will hold a little prayer meeting for her tonight. What's her name? :)

Re: meloxicam - don't know a thing about canine use/studies/experience but it's called Mobic for humans - related to piroxicam, aka "Feldene", which is a NSAID for 2-legged critters. Several years ago there were reports of a "few deaths" related to Feldene so I quit writing for it >15 years ago. Anybody who still does [that would be because it's on some HMO formularies - read as pretty cheap now] should be ordering periodic blood counts to check for anemia due to bleeding and chemistry profiles to make sure kidneys and liver aren't being trashed by the drug. As I said, I don't know squat about meloxicam in dogs but I'll stick with Rimadyl for our pack.

Rimadyl is the drug of choice at our house. For a 75 pound dog they run about $1+ each when you buy a bottle of 180 chewable tabs. You can get a written prescription from your vet or a faxed prescription and buy the same bottle online for about $125. PM me if you want and I'll get you the website info. RT66DOC is right, they do deserve at least as good of care as we would give ourselves, maybe better. Jim

hammersley, sorry for what you are going through.

This is a place we order all our supplements for our two Labs. They get a 1/2 teaspoon dose daily with their food in the morning. We mix ours with a combination of Pro Flex and 99. 9% Pure MSM. We have been giving them this for the last 6 years. We get the stuff in bulk, 3. 75 lb Pro Flex and 2 lbs of MSM at a time. you may want to also research Rimadyl before using it on your pup. Here is one link News. There has been some controversy over the drug. Here is another one Dog Logic.

Good luck.

Dog Hips

Had good suucees with Rymadyl, on our 5 year old, 135 lb. Great Pyranise, but because the meds can ultimatley cause kidney failure our Vet. recomended, two aditional products in order to keep the dose as low as possible. The products are MSM and alphalpha. Both available at the local health food store. I don't normally believe in the snake oil peddled at these stores, but we no longer need the rymadyl, and our dog with severe arthritusin the hip plays like a puppy for ove a year now. Also if you call your local AKC club and find a dog show, you will also see products made just for this problem. Good Luck, Steve

Also it took about 2 weeks for the meds too relly take effect.

Unfortunately, I don't have any information regarding the medication you're looking for.

How-ever, I'd like to offer a prayer for a quick recovery for your furry kid! As far as I'm concerned, they are better than most people!

Thanks so very much

for all the support and prayers .....

I'm going to take her (Abby) into the vet this AM. She is the perfect dog, as good as the Lord has created... . I'm a sucker for dogs - My wife and I simply love them... They sure work their way into your heart in a huge way... .

I'll let you know the results, and will see if I need to take advantage of any of the online mdications. .

Also thanks for the advice about the natural sources... ... I'll check them out as well... .

dogs hips

I to had the dog with bad hips. Beau was a 12 year old greman shepard/Golden retriever mix. He had hip displaisa pretty bad. After two yeary of rimadal I switched to a product called deramax. I noticed A difference in how he got up and walked around. I used this product for about a year then I found out aboput an injection called attaquan. After the frist treatment Beau was jumping around like a puppy again.

Unfortunally I do not have any long term results as my dog passed away before his second injection.

Also I never got good grades in spelling.

OK - had diagnosis

Had blood work done and x-rays. Some degeneration in one hip - fairly bad and arthritis in spine. However the Dr thinks that medicine will help a lot. So she started on ADEQUAN Injections (http://www.luitpold) and Rimadyl (150 mg/day). The injections are $35 each and she needs 1 every 3-4 days until she has maybe as many as 8. Will keep you guys posted for further knowledge.

And a Big Thanks you for you guys support, prayers and kind words. I know non-dog folks think us dog-people are whack-o----BUT I can't tell you how mant people (including our Pastor's wife) who never thought they would want a dog BUT after getting one - can't understand how they ever survived without them..... And a house is just a house without a dog - they make a house a HOME! And throw in grand-kids - what a deal... ...

BTW - I love my Dodge but she isn't on the same page as my dogs!

Thanks again guys.........

Dogs are one of God's very best gifts - no doubt about it. Will upload some pictures tonight... ... ...

Yes sir lets see them pictures. I only have two dogs left a cocker spaniel I got from my brother as a pup and a part lab/golden retreiver that my lab got two about 8 yrs ago and I got a pup. He has since passed away. Some people down the road saw him yrs ago and wanted to breed there lab with him and I got a pup from them. We use to have 4 dogs and they could eat and I always heard this from the wife :-{} about them dogs. :-laf I am going to surprise her someday and get me another one. :D

Ectogesic,(spelling) is the one our dog has taken for the past two years before that he took Rymadyl. This was a bit cheaper and seems to work better for him. He sure is a happy dog, always wants tp go for a ride or walk, even though he is limited on how far he can go. As long as he is happy and walks up the stairs every night I will keep spending $3. 00 bucks a day for meds.

The more I get to know some people the more I like my dogs!

BTW they have yet to complain about my none Ford sized back seat.

steve

best of wishes and prayers
