Dog Problem

Guys,



I have a problem with two of the neighbors dog that he decides to let loose at night. The problem is that they come over to my yard and beat up on my 6 month old rotweiler that is tied up. I've tried to be civil about it and go through the proper procedures a. k. a dog catcher. Although, I have had no luck with this option since the dog catcher is personal friends with the neighbor that owns the dogs. I'm ready to take care of the dogs with my . 22 but I'd rather not do that so if any you have any suggestions it would be appreciated.

Straight ammonia in one of those pump up squirt guns that shoot a long way. A little in their eyes will give them something to think about for a long time.

The paintball gun is a good start, it won't kill the dogs. Most paintball guns (usually called markers BTW) can be adjusted to shoot upwards of 400 FPS, but for field safety on people 300fps is that max that I've seen. Let me tell you that a paintball at 300fps stings like b#*tard if it hits you straight on. Get one and adjust it up as needed. You won't have to hit the 'strays' many times before they get the hint.



I wouldn't shoot at the dogs with an actual gun as you do still have to live near their owner, if you can trap them and make them "disappear" though... .

Borrow a Pit Bull from someone for a night, If I were closer you could use mine. Pits do get a lot of bad press; mine are docile untill another dog enters thier turf. My Lab will not go near the Pits.

BB Guns

Just pop those flea-baggs in the hip with a BB and they won't return.

At least none of the mutts have ever came back to our yard when a BB hits them.

Find out who the animal control officer reports to. Send a letter that outlines what has happened and the fact he is friends with your neighbors. Try to get a couple of other neighbors to sign it as well. Friends or not, he has a resonsibility to his position and needs to take care of business. We had a problem similar to this and I was able to get a couple of other neighbors sign a complaint with me and that finally got some action. Animal Control finally came out and took the animals.



Animal Control people are always cautious when dealing with single complaints because they are not sure if it is more of a neighbor hood battle rather than an animal issue.

Leave the paintballs outside while it is cold there in Colorado. Those things hurt like he-- when they are super cold.

A few mousetraps could work wonders as well.



My wife manages the local Humane Society; she has a 150 lb rotty that is the biggest baby until his space is invaded. Then he has no fear. He backed up a couple of mastiffs. If you were close I bet the Rotty would love to help your cause.

use a sling shot. they're not illegal to own or use in the city and OOPs, i hit YOUR dog while shooting tins cans in MY YARD.



i did that at my last house. i just took the bottom glass out of the storm door. we had a photo sensor on the porch rigged to turn on a lamp in the living room. i would just get up, sneak open the front door, kneel down and bombs away the smaller the object the worse it hurts.

seriously though, video footage or still pictures will work wonders in small claims court. if you have a leash law and your dog is injured from someones animal that is unrestrained THEY pay for it, hands down. after a history of viscious attacks (including other animals) the animal will be ordered to be dispossed of.



make sure you can identify the animal as theirs. get more than one instance to prove a history and talk to the nieghbors like was suggested before.

A good old 2A pressurized water extinguisher does wonders. It does not necessarily have to have just water in it...

If you want a permanant fix, the next time you change your coolant, leave the pan out in your driveway (out of reach from your tied up dog). It's not your fault if some varmits come on to your property and take a liking to the green devil.

Leave a few bars of milk chocolate out, too. In small pieces that they can eat up rapidly. That should complement the antifreeze nicely.

I don't like

I don't even like the thought of killing them. I used a canned air horn on the neighbors little mutt. He would come over in my yard bark and crap. I put some bacon grease on his poop one day and watched his owner try to stop him from eating it. Then the next day I gave him the air horn, he left a trail going back to his house. Now he walks across the street when he is out.



I have even thought of letting my big dogs out to "play" with his dog. But, couldn't bear it if the pound came and got my Bulldozer and Boodro.



Hope your getting some snow up there. I lost eleven trees to beetles last year. Hope all is going well for you, besides the dog problem. Lance

I agree, CP. Joking aside - I really wouldn't want to kill them either. The dogs really aren't the problem - it's the owners. They're the ones who should be on the business end of the creative ideas.



I like the bacon grease one - but I'd add to it that the poop could be deposited on the hood of the owners' car. Or maybe the windshield. The old dead fish under the seat routine is also good if they leave it unlocked.



The fact that these other dogs are attacking Joe's dog does make it harder to leave the dogs out of it, though. He should be able to protect his dog.
