If my thoughts are right. You will find that the front diff will be 3. 55 or 3. 53 and the rear will be 3. 54. the same with 4. 10's 4. 11 or 4. 09. This is so that the front end will pull just a bit more than the rear. so air psi, tire size can effect turning or driving straight on dry roads. Also I thing they tell you not to drive on dry pavement.

I agree with C1B1DIESEL.

With all of older drivetrain parts I've dealt with they were geared one point greater (numerically) in the front in order to pull the truck. I would assume this is still true, but haven't checked it out yet.

Sorry I haven't replyed sooner but last night I couldn't get hooked up. I have checked to see if the front and rear diffs are the same or not. They are both 4. 10 not like any other 4wd I have had, always before had slightly faster front than rear. The dealer mechanic told me 4wd's always have the same ratio front and rear. He didn't act like he belived me when I told him how my truck acted,so I didn't tell him most older rigs have a faster front ratio. I'll have to wait until it snows again to see if airing the tires cures my dog track problem. I'm on a mission ,I will figure out why it dog tracks and why it hops in turns in 4wd. The gear ratio could part of the hopping but I will find out and report my results. Thanks for all the input... ..... Blue

Newer Chevy trucks do have a real locker in them... but you have to be careful with them, don't floor it when one wheel is spinning, it will blow the guts out when it engages, give it just enough gas to engage the unit.

Ol Blue, my '98 QC LB 4x4 bucked a lot in 4x4 anytime I made turns in the snow. It's because of the tendecy of these trucks to axle-hop due to the rear leaf springs winding up when the tires are spinning. With a noseheavy pickup turning a corner, the rear tires have to run the speed of the fronts and have to spin as a result. Having a long wheelbase makes it much worse since the distance the fronts must travel is much greater than the rears when turning. If you were to install traction bars I'll bet the bucking would be greatly diminished or eliminated.
