Doggie Doors?

Anyone have any experiance with them?



I've got two new yellow lab puppies that are bunked out in my polebarn and I'm thinking of installing a doggie door to let them come and go as they please. I'm looking for something I could maybe lock up during the night and something that will seal halfway decent too keep out the cold. I've never even seen one of these things installed so I haven't a clue what I'm getting into, so I'm just looking for some input.

We installed a small doggie door for our cat. It seals out the cold by a felt weatherstrip, and a magnet keeps it in the closed position. As far as locking it, There is a small plastic tab to lock your per in or out, but it will not keep out a person. Ours is small enough that even a small child has no possible chance of fitting through.



Install was easy. Get a jig saw and cut an appropriate hole in the door. Then install into door.

WE have a Black lab and a golden retriever i put a slideing glass door dogy door in . I forget the brand but it maches the existing frame it blends right in it has the magnet on the rubber flap to keep it closed at all times and if you want to you want to block it it has a plastic peice that slides down and blocks it off. It came with weather stip but i went and got a roll of foam weather striping and it worked out pretty good.

We put a PetSafe cat door in our sliding screen door. Nice quality and easy install. (Recently the boss cat came flying in and tore the screen in half, so we had to replace the whole screen. Ended up getting a very heavy duty screen called pet screen, in case you need a strong one) Anyway, we got it at Petco, and they had dog doors there. But looks like the same product is a lot cheaper from them directly...

I ordered one of the Exta Large Ultimate Dog doors, that should be plenty big enough for my two labs.
