All the threads and instructions, say to use a dab of red thread locker on the 5 bolts that hold the timing case and dole pin bolt. I need to be schooled on the thread lockers:confused:. I all way thought you should use blue thread locker on serviceable bolt? If you used the red thread locker, it had to be heated to loose the bolts and the smaller the bolt the hard it was to get out. A'm I wrong about this or did they change the color of the thread locker. I have blue threadlocker, which is serviceable and the red threadlocker thats high strength and hard to service if you had to.

Use Red. Too many people think you can't remove bolts without heat but that is simply not true. I use red exclusively on all sorts of fasteners and have no problems taking them apart.
 
Use the red. Heat is not needed to break the red loose.

"Serviceable" means it needs to be removed regularly, like a drain plug.
 
Great to know. On the bolts that hold the timing cover on, it says to use a dab of RTV on the threads. Do any of the bolts go through TO THE BLOCK? If so should I use thredlocker on those bolts instead of RTV?

All the long bolts go through the gear case and fasten to the block. A dab of rtv will be sufficient as thread locker.
 
You using a tab on the pin? or just wicking it with a ping on the edge. A lot of work if you don't. The old instructions called for BLUE. Its your choice.
 
All the instructions I've read, use red thread locker on the 3 bolts in the case and the 2 lower case bolts. Then to use a dab of RTV on the bolts that hold the cover on the case.All done with tabbing the killer dowel pin. The pin looked to be a little out ,but when I tried to pound it in, it didn't move! SO I PUT THE TAB ON AND TAPPED IT FLAT.

Prevailing thought at the time was green on the pin itself with a tab as added insurance.
I dont remember if the bolt on the tab was loc-tited or not.
