Started yesterday, while on the road, dome light clicking on and off,and stayed on once. Can be shut off by turning the dimmer switch off. the clicking noise is comming from the motorola black box behind the dash knee wall to the bottom right of the steering column. Is it that box or has the light switch finnally fried. It will click a 1/2 dozen times in 30 sec or so then stop for a while. To get to the light switch does the exterior bezel trim just pull snap off? I dont want to break it.

Sounds like a short around the box or in the wiring, but if it turns out to be the headlight switch, replacing it isn't too hard.

The exterior bezel trim pulls off in my 98. There's 7 or 8 snap tabs that pull out. That allows access to remove the three screws in the headlight switch. Had my headlight switch burn up a couple of years ago. The same basic switch is used in a lot of Dodge cars and trucks for the past number of years. I went to a scrapyard and got one out of a Dodge Caravan and it's been working fine since. I leave the dash lights on maximum now though, to keep the rheostat cooler, and hopefully prevent another burn out.

I always keep the reostatat turned allthe way up to keep it cool. The clicking noise is comming from the central timer module (ctm) I searched the internet all day and had no luck. I dont think it is a bad wire, but I will spend a couple hours looking before I go to a dealer, as there seems to be no after market ctms.

My truck is doing exactly the same thing and it's driving me nuts. It sucks because to get it to stop I have to turn the dimmer all the way down which makes seeing the dash lights at night pretty tough. Mine usually does it when you hit a bump or something. You hear a click and then it just keeps going. Lights flashing on and off. The clicking noise in the dash keeps going even after I shut the lights off with the dimmer switch. Anyone know what it is? My truck is an 01. and is driving me crazy with dash problems. Its broke and falling in, I had the box out that holds the heater core and ac and apparently got the hat and cold control door messed up because i have to move it manually the motor wont do it. If I'm gonna rip the dash out again I'd like to do it all while I'm in there. Already bought a headlight switch thinking that was it but no luck. Thanks in advance for any help.

I took mine to the dealer for this. It is the door light switch in the door. They adjusted it and it stopped . It is now out of adjustment again. Now the light nor the key alarm does not sound when I open the drivers door but as long as I dont get lights coming on I dont care.

The cost for the dealer adjusting the switch in the door was $60. 00
