you'll love the sound deadener.
I have messed with a lot of exhaust configurations on my 12v trucks, and I have also installed a lot of sound deadener!
I will admit, I have a weak-spot for a straight piped Cummins
I have mild tinnitus from years of loud music, loud cars, die grinders, etc...
I have also always had VERY sensitive ears. My straight piped trucks and stacked trucks have never bothered my wife, but they kill me.
my recipe for cutting exhaust resonance is as follows:
stiff (but still rubber isolated!) exhaust hangers from the tailpipe to about the transmission crossmember... this holds the exhaust like holding your finger on a tuning fork... won't allow it to vibrate (resonate). then run a length of flex pipe between the downpipe and rest of the exhaust system. this will help isolate the vibration and prevent cracking of turbos/manifolds/etc. due to engine rotation vs. stiffly mounted exhaust
SOUND DEADENER!!!! I use lots of it and one area that many people overlook that helps a great deal with exhaust resonance is above your head! I always cover all of the interior, including the celing.
an exhaust tip that turns down/back and clears the bedside by a few inches will help. I even put sound deadener on the inside of the bedside nearest the exhaust outlet.
a spray-in bedliner will help
doing all of this, I roll around with 5-6" straight pipe and have less resonance than many do with a muffled aftermarket system...
throw a good flowing muffler or two in the mix!?!? (I'm going to build a system with an M090535 here pretty soon just to see
