How are the Donaldson oil filters compared to a Fleetguard? Are they an "approved" filter?

I'd like an answer to that question also. The local freightliner dealer where I've bought a lot of parts only handles the Donaldson Filters and I wondered why. Maybe they are as good or better than the Fleetguard.

I love the Fleetguard, but I'd consider the Donaldson Endurance to be AT LEAST its equal, if not superior.

The media on the Donaldson filters is even more advanced than our own favorite Stratapore. Go to the Donaldson site and read up on their "Endurance" oil filters.

Amsoil is selling them for CTDs through their website.

I have been using Donaldson filters for a little while now, 3 change. The si has been lower using the Donaldson compared to the Fleetgaurd, mileage wise, but that could be because of winter now closing upon us. As for as being an approved filter, nope not yet. But I have 150000 on my truck and needless to say I couldn't be happier... ... ... ..... later Jim.

I can't speak to the Cummins 5. 9L filter since I haven't run it, but Donaldson is a reputable manufacturer of filtration products for large industrial engines and gas turbines. If their "little" oil filters are of the same quality (and I have no reason to doubt that they are), they should be excellent.

I read something within the last 6-8 mnths. that there was just a few filter makers and that they made each others filters depending on demand, maybe someone with info will bring it back , I've seen this with many products , it makes it difficult to find some thing good and keep getting more if we'er always being B. S. ed. and this maybe also.

IIRC, Donaldson makes oil filters for John Deere. Seem to be great filters.



And most BHAF are rebadged Donaldson filters. Wix and Carquest included.

14 years ago I worked in Baldwin's filter plant. I can remember making Donaldson filters at that time along with many other flavors. Same filter as the Baldwin, just different paint and label. Will be going back there over Christmas, might try and find out more then.

We do in the semi trucks. Did on my Ram, but switched to Fleetguard.

Heres my ? if most of the filters only change the paint & lable then whats the point of picking a brand , you don't know what your getting anyway.

Just because they are made by a few companies, doesn't necessarially mean there isn't a difference in the internals. Could be made to the specs of the company having them made.

My memory of what we did at Baldwin filters: filter media, can, baseplate, spring, seal, and anti-drainback valve were all the same. The painter was cleaned and re-setup with whatever color while the assembly line was being changed over to the next part. I don't ever recall different flavors getting different ingredients. Just my experience at one manufacturer's facility in the early 90's. Mighta changed by now???

I run Baldwin filters on my truck. I know that the fuel filters between Baldwin and Donaldson are different in filter media and about $13 in price. I think they wanted $22 for the Donaldson filter. Too much for me being I change them with my oil.
