Protect your rear door glass if you have a Mega Cab!!! My right rear glass devoloped a crack from either the heat or a runaway weed whacker. It cracked fast and made me nervous enough to duct tape over the cracks in hopes of getting home before it failed.

Once I made the 200 mile drive home I figured out that it is laminated and constructed the same as windshield glass so it probably would not have caved in had I not reinforced it.

Now for the price..... 350. 00 from Dodge!!!!! I tried aftermarket and the best price was 275. 00. Nothing at any salvage yards that I could find.

Decided to go with the Dodge glass so it will match the other door and it is worth the additional 75. 00 to me so that I don't hate it everytime that I look at it.

Just thought you guys might want to be aware of the cost of these puppies. A quad cab glass is only about 100. 00 by the way and several glass outfits kept trying to sell me that. Mega Cab is listed in the NAGS book as "extended crew cab"... ...

I had the same problem. My wholesale price was $302 from Dodge. I decided to pay my deductible and boy am I glad. The company the insurance company sent put in three glasses. Each time they would put it in and leave, I would simply let it down to test it and it would come back up broken. At least they got it right on the third try.

I have a 500. 00 deductible and also try to avoid small claims, the insurance companys keep a close eye on that and a small claim weighs in the same as a large claim to them.

I am going to change it myself tomorrow so I will be extra careful with the glass track alignment.

I suspect that there may have been a defect in the glass as I can not find a chip on it anywhere. I wanted to post this to see if anyone else has had the cracking problem.

LFarmer, was the glass aftermarket or Mopar that they installed three times????

It was Mopar at my request. I thought about going the same route as you. My deductible is $250. The glass man seemed competent, and did say it is a difficult glass to install and that laminated is more fragile than tempered.

A fresh thought I am having is that I recently installed the Putco In-channel visors on all 4 doors. There is a tiny voice in the back of my head saying that the strain on the channel for the last two inches of travel may be too much for the laminated glass. I hate that voice... ... ... ..... :-{}

I have $50 deductible on my truck and wife's Ford Escape - only $25 more per year than the $200 deductible - and with the way they gravel roads here in the winter, both windshields on our 2 vehicles will need replacement next year. Around here, glass coverage is a no-brainer - pay me a LITTLE now - or pay me a LOT later... ;):-laf

If you are still in 3/36 get to the dealer. There was a problem with the rear glass cracking on Megacab. If it is already in pieces it is too late.

No, I am at about 3/85!!!! Thanks for letting me know that there was an issue with the glass, hopefully the replacement glass is made of better stuff.

I am sure that Chrysler would goodwill the repair, right???:-laf:-laf

you dinged your insurance on a $250 deductable for a $300 piece of glass?

they were probably trying to use bolts instead of rivets or something... installing door glass is easy IMO

doesn't cost much to install... have them install it and they're liable

I wouldn't count on Chyrsler/Dodge trying to improve anything I put a new steering wheel on in 2005 it is already showing signs of wear in another four or five year I'll being grabbing metal again and putting another new one on.
