My understanding is that off-road fuel is the same that we buy at the pump with the exception of the red dye and the taxes.

Exactly, #2 is #2 whether or not it has the dye added. :rolleyes:

I use Marvel Mystry OIL in MY 06 Have been stopped for fuel check my fuel is red think it is contaminated? Not hardley get a new dealer

There is absolutly no difference in off road (dyed) and on road. However as a word of caution it is not worth running the red. Penalties and fines can run as high as 100. 00 per gallon. In MO they have been going around to the cattle sale barns and checking pickups as farmers have the easiest access to off road fuel. Our semi's have even had fuel filters cut open to check for traces of dye. They are kind enough to put a new one on when they do it.

That's not only crazy, that's completely out of hand. I would even go so far as to say borderline illegal. It's one thing to dip a tank, or drain a little fuel out of the water/fuel separator, but to cut a filter open...

I think some of these guys may be slightly abusing their authority.

a free fuel filter change. sounds good to me. now if your breaking the law, you got it coming. whats wrong with making sure everyone pays there way?

im not trying to insult those that make that choice but i dont see why anyone would take that risk. can you really save that much? of course if you run 3k a week i could see a benifit but i figure im average as far as fuel usage goes. how much is the tax? im paying about 100 bucks a week in fuel cost. $3. 09 a gallon.

as for the dealer, i about ready to take a look at another old 12v. at least i wont need to bother with the service managers. some of them arent worth the chair they sit on. :rolleyes: i wont rant on as im sure you all know what i mean :-laf

This fuel quality thing is just the tip of the iceberg. I have seen the red dye applied to farm fuel at the distributor level & it is just dye added to regular #2 fuel. Thats all. I think there is probably alot of contaminated red fuel out there. It comes from the barrels & containers that its stored in. Our dealer here in Weatherford is now making the customer replace lift pump, injection pump, fuel rail, all 6 steel fuel lines, crossovers & injectors. :eek: Our state farm agent has called the shop twice in , a panic. Wanting to know how a little water can cause $6,800. 00 in damage. Whats worse is dodge wont reinstate the warty until these things are done. If I were you I would call my agent & break the bad news to him. Or. I would make the dodge dealer tear down a injector & show me some water damage. If it is really contaminated fuel, There will be some signs :-{}
