Getting ready to sell my 95 reg cab, looking under the hood at the build up of oil and dirt from the leaking valve covers got me thinking about a little degrease job. Sounds like a good idea? NOT. Bought some of the good old gunk in a can and sprayed it on not real heavy or anything but a coat waited about 5 min and hosed it off with the garden hose. let things dry and hey looking good. drove to the store and back got out smelled diesel?

look under the hood and what the ? 4 of the injectors are leaking from around the nut area. The gunk must be pretty mean so anyway dont use it around rubber at all and if anyone has had this problem let me know how you took care of it please. Where you able to replace just seals or not?

The rubber seals around the injectors don't keep fuel in, they keep dirt out. The injectors are sealed with copper at the bottom. I'm pretty sure?

Are you sure it's not engine oil coming through the V/C gaskets?

Yes there is no doubt its fuel its coming from around the nut(it apears that way) ill take a better look this weekend

The injectors are for sure sealed by copper washers way down at the base in the bottom of the bore. The degreaser had nothing to do with it, all it did was wash the crud off so you could see the leaks better.

Was your engine hot when you hosed it down?? I usually use Simple Green and have never had a problem like that. Just wet the engine first and spray it down with the green and pressure wash it all off and everything is like factory fresh. :D

Thats a weird dilemma, though.

Thanks all and

No the motor was not hot and im almost 100% positive its a new leak becouse now I can smell major fuel and before I did not have that . when I find out for sureI will post the solution as well as the real culprit, looking for input based on expirience not speculation. I have not cut an injector apart but so I dont know for sure but it seams as though its possible for them to have seals internally and that is what I suspect is leaking not where it is sealed to the head

Thanks

are you 100% certain it's not just excess carb cleaner boiling up from between the injector body and head?

when I first got my truck I had a couple injectors that were leaking where the fuel lines connect to the injectors... I got them tightened down, and then I thought I had fuel and or combustion gas leaking past that seal... turns out it was just the fuel that had collected down in there boiling off... haven't had any trouble since (knock on wood!) only other thing was a leaking DV o-ring that I just licked a few weeks ago.

No im not sure of that forrest but there is enoughthere to lead me to believe thats not the case but ill check out your suggestion thanks

I have always found the "Gunk" Engine Cleaner to be effective but mild. I've used it many times on our vehicles, probably twice a year or so. I have never had any problems with it hurting anything, plastic, rubber or metal. The only down side I have found, is you have to smell it for a couple of days till the engine is completely dry and aired out. I think the Gunk is alot milder then some cleaners, like Greased Lighting which attacks aluminum.
