Alright... I normally don't do this, but after spending over $1000 for Nitto TerraGrapplers (E-rated, 285/70-17) for my Dodge Ram 2500, I'm pretty freaking ****** off at Nitto's customer service. I barely tow with it - maybe 2K/ year towing.

I bought the tires 2 years ago and have since put 20,000 miles on it. THE TIRES ARE DOWN TO THE WEAR BARS! At 5K miles, I took it into Discount Tire (where I bought them) and the employee said "oh, looks like they are wearing fine". That was after I said they were already 25% worn... .

I called Nitto 1 year ago - explained the situation and let them know that I understood the tires did not have a mileage warranty, but this wear was AWEFUL. They said to contact them when the tires were worn (I have the guy's name at home, and I'm gonna give him a call) and they would see what they could do.

So, now to today's call to Nitto - They guy said "Sorry, those don't have a warranty". I said I understood, but the tire also says UTQG of 500 (meaning it should last 5 times longer than the national "control" tire. So... . I guess that means the control tire should only last 4,000 miles???? The Nitto employee ran thru the standard series of questions - did you put the right rating tire on, etc..... YES, YES, and more YES. "Well, there is nothing we can do..... I don't understand the UTQG, but the tire does not have a mileage warranty"... No ***** - I thought we established that at the beginning of the conversation. I told him I would never buy Nitto's again for any of my vehicles and would be sure to post my experience on every forum I could and tell all my friends...

So, there it is..... my 1st and last experience with Nittos. Never again... gonna stick with BFG's, Michelins, or Toyo's for my truck.

Boy, you must have got a bad set or something. I've had my 325/60/20 Nitto Terra Grapplers on for about 30k and I'd guess they are about 1/2 worn. I only tow a boat on the weekends (one is only 2500#, the other around 8000#), but I drive around with 500rwhp/1000ft-lbs everyday.

I love my set and will buy again. Are you sure you just didn't get a bum set? I probably would have beat on the guy at Discount Tire more... they are usually pretty willing to help.

the tires did not have a mileage warranty,

I would have looked at different tires. If the company doesn't warrenty a tire on milage think of it as a low milage tire. It doesn't matter what brand.

Thanks for the heads up.

Ill cross them off my list of what not to get. :D

Im thining about going with the Goodyear Silent Armor anyway.

I'm very happy with my 285/16 10 ply - - at 40k miles and heavy truck (9700# fixed load) I had them rotated this AM and and they are about 50% worn, which I think is acceptable - - BUT what I realy like is the way they handle mud and snow, I'm off road along railraod tracks and havent had to use the winch to get myself out. I'll probably buy an new set this fall. Seems to me MattTaylor may have gotten a bad set or an old set.

i agree i had the 285-70-17 terra grapplers E rated. i did not get but 20,000 miles out of them. same goes for the stock BFG rugged trail. i am running the BFG ATKO now anf they have about 25,000 on them and i think ill get another 5,000-7,000 out of them. they have been great so far. when i buy tires again im going with the 315/70-17 BFG ATKO. i would love a mud tire but i dont know if i could get a set to last 30,000 miles?

I only got about 16,000 miles out of the nitto graps I had. They were awesome when brand new. The traction was second to none however with this soft rubber there is a longevity compromise

Hay Matt ... What state do you live in... I noticed another post with low millage and that person is from California ... I wonder if the hot Temputures and soft rubber are the issues you have hit, I bet if we charted out mean temputures and millage the colder states would have better millage ... . Trust me I would be ****** about 20K miles on tires too. :eek:. . just trying to maybe see why you have the issue . . now if you tell me you live in Alaska ... well my idea is shot to hell then... . :{

Good luck on the next set

I'll get maybe 30,000 out of the E's this year. I got 20 out of the 295 D's. If it was a new-winter season, I'd prolly replace mine as there is a little over 1/8 of tred left. but I'll get these down a little further. I got hem some where in the 70,000 mile mark. maybe 73. I have 98,600 on the truck now.

I as well got about 20k out of my 295/70/17 nittos terra grapplers...

My Toyo Open countrys seem to holding up much better...

I've got 34k on my Toyo's. Will probably get 45k before I have to buy new ones. Still disappointing after getting 72k out of the stock BF Goodies.

I had that happen with a set of BFG's, but I only got 15k out of them, with NO hauling. I wont buy anything that has BFG on them for that reason. Live and learn. Good luck

I feel your pain. I had a set that was blown down to may-pops in 24k on my 01. The rear was where the most wear took place and I don't spin/smoke the tires. Was told I had a front end problem but that's another story. I'm on my 2nd set on my current truck that will easily go 40k. I would go along with you getting a bad batch but it is somewhat discouraging that I've had a bad set, albeit 6 years ago, and you as well. Definately says something about their QC processes if nothing else. Has me scratching head since I will be replacing tires in the next month or two.
