Finished install of Westach fuel pressure gauge Tuesday morning. Started engine and gauge read 3 lbs at idle. This can't be. My truck ( a 98. 5 )has only 60,000 miles on it. It must be install error, bad gauge, faulty sending unit, anything but a bad lift pump. WRONG! I had pressure checked at the top of filter housing with the same results. Installed a FASS pusher pump this morning and had 17 lbs at idle. Truck showed no performance loss or any other clues that lift pump was graveyard bound. If you don't already have an aftermarket pump, you're only kidding yourself.

I have a 99 24v with 135,000 on it. I installed the Westech Fuel pressure gauge in a three guage piller along with the duel trans guage and EGT/Boost about three months ago and the old lift pump reads 12 pounds at idle. I am always paranoid about the pressure and monitor it all the time. I agree with you and will be putting on a new aftermarket pump very soon.

GUAGES! GUAGES! GUAGES!

It seens the hardest, and most important lesson to get across to new members and diesel owners!

I think if you waited until 60,000 miles to check the fuel pressure you're only kidding yourself. Not sure how the aftermarket pump fits in here. There is no guarantee of adequate pressure with any transfer pump installation, OEM or aftermarket.

Just finished mine a few days ago... 72,500 miles, original lift pump, 12psi idle/10psi cruise/7psi WOT.

I was terrified that it was going to be reading zero... :(

When hooking up the hoses I did the air bleed trick to make sure there was no air in the hose... what would the symptoms be if there were air in the hose leading to the sending unit? Just curious...

I intentionally left air in the lines (I don't know if it's still there) connecting the pre-filter and post-filter Westach senders on my Ram. I'm approaching 120,000 miles without any problems.

You should notice no difference measuring the pressure of a gas or liquid.

I am running my third LP and am at 52K. This one has begun the slow death tango just recently. When new, it would hold 14 psi at idle and could only be pulled down to 11 psi at WOT. It is now down to 12 psi at idle and can be pulled to 8. 5 at WOT. I will be taking it to the st****r when it will only hold 10 psi at idle and they will install a new LP. They are going to eat these, and a VP if it craps on a long trip, until 100K. Then it's "Hasta la vista, cabrones!" Hello something that will work.
