Hi Guys,

You scared the CR##P out of me there for a sec. It LOOKS just like Dave's rig, He hauls cars to the Denver Auto Auction through that intersection all the time. But on closer examination, it isn't. Dave's truck has running boards and his door logo is different. I gave him a call anyway to see if he knows the guy. Dave has to carry a hefty amount of insurance and all that. So if it was him, he would be safe.

I just got off the phone with Dave. It WAS NOT his truck. But when I described the truck to him he said he had seen it just the other day for the first time. Apparently he WAS a new guy to the business. I hope his insurance was paid up.

Dave also said that when getting a CDL they go over and over safe cornering speeds. I'll bet that guy didn't have his CDL. Apparently, at least half of the guys in the business don't, and don't bother to get them until they get in trouble.

On a more serious note (not) I hope it was the Peterbilt they used to roll it over and not the Powderstroke. A big enough hit in the pride w/o the Powderstroke to add insult to injury... #ad

I saw this when I went to Flying J in Aurora tonight. After they uprighted everything, they used the tow truck to perform some on-site body work, hooked up the trailer to the truck, and drove it around the corner to get it out of the street. The trailer was hauling a Camareo and a Four Runner, but damage seemed minimal under the circumstances.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm terrible with names, but that sure looks like the truck and trailer that was up at Central Motive with the Ford on it. I think the guy said he lived out around that area, too.

For those of you that do this type of towing:What would have been the best way to load only 2 cars on the trailer? One at the front and one at the back?

I have wondered about these guys hauling vehicles. Is there a way to make money doing this? Do dealerships need transporters? I see them around quite a bit.

You can't make it as a hobby. Serious commitment of time & money, full time job. Major hassles in paperwork, permits, ins, liscensing etc. . Then you get to deal with sales.

I wasn't talking about it as a hobby. I am just wondering if there is a market for it. Can a feller make a living at it?

Hello Benson,

My buddy does make a living out of hauling cars with his rig that is VERY similar to the one shown on that post. He has a 3 (or 4 small) car trailer that is a little bigger than the one in that picture. (3 axles instead of 2).

If you want to make good money at it, you have to do it full time. He only does it about half time with the other half of his time devoted to a framing contractor business. He hauls cars mostly around town for dealers to and from the auctions and for a company that accepts donated cars for charity.

I've gone with him a few times. The driving is the easy (and fun) part. Loading them, strapping them down, unstrapping them, then unloading is the hard part. You get dirty and physically worked.

It is not for the faint of heart.
