I stole this from another thread... ... .....

To eliminate door chime with key in the ignition but keep chime active to remind you to turn the head lights off:

Remove the plastic cover on the steering column. You will need a torx T?? driver to do this. A hex key wrench will also work as I use one to remove the T?? screws recessed in the deep holes on the underside of the cover.

then for an . 01... ... ... ...

Then, you'll see a 2 wire plug under the ignition switch, one wire is for the light in the key hole, and the other is fer the dinger. My light didn't work anywhoo, so I just unpluged both wires. Unhook the dinger wire, and put everything back together, done.

I cut the wire in the column on my '98. I can't remember the color, pink maybe? By cutting this wire rather then diconecting the box you still have all the other chimes for your warnings such as lights on, oil pressure, fuel and so on. Hope this helps.

cumminspower,

The '01's only have 2 wires, which I said above, also all the rest of the annoying dingers still work.

Last winter, someone posted that the stealer can hook his computer up to the pickup computer and turn it off electronically.

I never tried it, because by then I had filled the dinger with liquid silver solder (didn't have any silicone handy), enough to really quiet it down. Kind of a redneck way of doing it, but it did mute the chime quiet a bit, but didn't silence it all the way.

robs` right

The best and easiest way is to remove the shroud and disconnect the ign switch wires. . No the dealers cannot access the central timer module to remove the binging noise. . It is not a function in the "customer preferences` " area.
