2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Door hinge roller replacement

Is it possible to replace the little roller that holds the door open? Mine has locked up and now the spring lever with the indentations drags back and forth against the roller when the door is opened. The roller shaft appears to have been peened or riveted in. Any ideas for replacement procedure and parts??

The spring was missing on mine and the door wouldn't stay open. I called the stealer they said no parts must buy the whole hinge 52. 00

I went to local junk yard and got the whole hinge for 10. 00.

These little rollers tie up if you don't oil them regularly,I found a way to free them up. It takes some fiddling,but is easier than changing a hinge. Take a piece of emery cloth(sand paper might work-emery cloth holds up better) about 3/8ths wide and fold it in half lengthwise with the grit facing out. Stand with the door open and feed the emery cloth between the roller and spring loaded piece that rides on it,if you can get the grit to catch on both as you wiggle the door back an forth it may turn the roller. If it does hose it down with WD-40 as you work it back and forth and watch the rust pour out. This has worked for me a number of times and is quicker than it sounds. Jim

another option is go to Napa or similar auto parts store and purchase a grease gun injection needle. The needle really helps get in the tight spots you'd otherwise have trouble getting grease into. About once a year I squirt a little grease between the roller and the center post it rides on and in all the hinge points of the door assembly (swinging the door open and close repeatedly after helps work the grease into the tight spots). I've tried things like spray grease, WD-40 and even motor oil, but none seems to last as long as grease.

Another hinge tip...

My wife and all my friends think I am off my rocker, but I never start the truck or (even worse) shut it off with ANY of the doors open. The weight of the open doors when the engine shakes to a stop has got to put a lot of stress on those hinges. Food for thought... or

Getting grease in there is the best option. Another option is the sprocket tip greaser for your chain saw.

WD-40 is NOT a permanent lubricant. Read the can. It is mostly kerosene and propellant.
