Better than a magnetic holder is to put a spare key in your wallet. I cut the plastic off and it fits nicely and have used it several times due to that little trick the 03 has of locking me out. Make the dealer give you a spare key as part of deal when you buy the truck, a $41. 000 truck sale should be worth the price of a key to make the sale I always get one when buying a new vehicle.

I used same technique as Trophy1 but with a locksmith made key.
For 3. 00, it was the best investment to reduce need for mobile lockout service.

I keep the keyfob in my pocket and pretty well drive with a separate key. Has saved me a time or two. Also lets me lock the doors and leave it running... yeah, that's another argument for another thread. :-{}

Being paranoid about this happening in any car (especially when I have my kids buckled in their car seats)... . I usually roll the window down about 5 inches or so if I get out of the car and shut the door to get the mail or whatever... . that way I can reach in and unlock it if needed.

Yeah, except modern windshields are laminated with a sheet of plastic (I'm sure its a more complicated process than I make it sound) so the amount of effort required to break it and then actually "get through it" is difficult. And then you might not be able to drive the vehicle - since you need to be able to see though it. I know of people breaking the rear window instead..... easier to replace and get through!

Hey Scooby, Guess what???

Your side windows are laminated now as well!!!! I had a rear door glass crack on the Mega, taped it all up so I could get home and buy a new window. Well after changing it out I tried to finish trashing the one I removed and was almost impossible to fold it in half!!!!

Did some research on the 'net and found out most domestic pick-ups nowadays have laminated glass in the sides doors as well.

There are special tools and techniques for firefighters to gain access into side-laminate glass equipped vehicles, they have a tool to cut the laminate after breaking the glass.

It is as nasty to kick out as a windshield if not worse.

Check it out.

So I have told all the family if the truck goes in the drink and the power windows are dead then the only window that can be easily kicked out is going to be the rear slider, forget the rest of them.

I wish that they would inform people before making a change such as that one, I don't feel that it is safe at all.

Mike.

That's very good to know... . altough I have then had all of my windows tinted anyway. I had better stay away from the water!.

Just seperate Key and Remote and keep Remote on you at all times.

That's the method I use. I bought one of those spring loaded key rings that separate into two halves and put the key on one side and the fob on the other. When I want to get out of the truck and leave the engine running it takes less than a second to separate the two halves. The first time I used it I almost soiled myself when I used the fob to unlock the doors and the lights didn't flash. Then I realized that when the engine is running the lights don't flash when you unlock the doors with the fob.

I Added a key pad like the ford has cause i was use to having one when i had my ford.

If you want to add one PM me I can help you with it.

My truck was running with the key in the ignition. nearly five minutes after it was running (about 32*F ) it decided to LOCK the doors by its self!!!!!
1. 5hrs latter while running a locksmith help with a $90 bill!!

Couldn't find my extra key copies, now i am gonna make about 10 more (blanks the open the door only!))

AAA+, brother! It's cheaper than a single tow, or a single call to a locksmith. I think I paid $84 last time. I once had a gasser Ford pickup that snapped an alternator belt in Marietta, Oklahoma. It was a Sunday night and there were no autoparts stores open and AAA said they couldn't bring/sell me one, but they could tow me more than 100 miles to Fort Worth, Texas. Cost me $10 for the miles over what they covered for a tow. Pretty much about, or less than I would have paid for gas if I had driven it. Didn't know about the panty hose trick at the time, or I might have bought a pair to find out if it really works.

I had the fob separate on my 01 but now the new 09 6. 7's have the fob right on the key. . not able to separate. . I got a non-ignition key (works only on the door. . no chip). . from the dealer and put it in a mag key holder for just this reason if the doors were to lock. . got the key for free!! this was just after I bought the truck though. . Nice piece of mind to have.

i put a blank key on the wires headed to the rear bumper. i painted it black, wraped it in eletrical tape then taped it to the wire harness. very hard to see when looking straight up at it.

it it just above the spare tire on drivers side. you would think it a conector. it would take about 3 minutes with a knife to get to it but who cares!!
