Couldn't figure out which board to post this on, so I will try this one.

Have any of you taken your door panels off, and know of the plastic things that hold the panel onto the door frame? And know how they don't like to be reused. Well I called my local dealer and dodge wants $1. 87 a piece for thos things! And I know if I could just find them in a specialty fastener store they would not be that much.

I need to run wires from my new amp to my door speakers but since I've already removed and attached the door once, I know those things really will not like to be reused this time.

Anyone know of a place on the web that sells specialty automotive fasteners?

thankx!

What's the proceedure for getting the door panels off. I looked at mine and nothing seemed obvious, except taking the screws out of the door handle/arm rest.

Thanks.

PULL! really you pull the door off the plastic things, or they pull out of the door frame. if you have an interior tool you might can pry them out of the door frame without having to pop them out of the panel itself (which you really aren't supposed to do but there really is no other way that doesn't take forever and a lot of cussing).

I've taken the panels off two trucks installing speakers, they are all the same. Getting them back on is easy.

Your right just unscrew the couple screws (one by the front of the window frame and 2 in the door pull if you have power mirors you will have to pull the adjusting knob off as well) and then slide a screwdriver or putty knife underneath and pop one fastener then stick your fingers underneath and just slide them around the panel pulling and popping them off as you go. You can usually get those fasteners also at a variety of auto parts stores but I would take one with me as they have a variety of different styles. I picked some up at napa if I recall for like 10 for 3 bucks or so. Sometimes you can reuse them but new ones are definetly better and there are quite a few on each door panel. Also when you get to the last one the door panel is still connected by the wiring to the pw/pl switches and will hang by the wires so be careful towards the end.

I'm going to hit some part stores today!

Also, abou thte pw/pl switches, those can be easily removed from the door panel itself once you get it off the door frame, then you can lay the door panel aside and let the swtiches hang

Thanks for the thorough instructions;)

Speaking of speakers, has anyone had trouble with their's? I have one that gets staticy now and then and then works fine. Seems humidity has an effect on it. Are there good aftermarket speakers that work well?

Thanks,

Oh man, the speakers that come in these trucks, unless you get the upgraded stereo system are pure CRAP!

Any 6x9 speaker will work, you have to cut the wires though to put them on cause there is no way of making the original connectors work with aftermarket speakers (thank you chrysler)

Here is a layout of my system

Rockford Fosgate RFX9300 headunit (play's MP3's!!!)

Polk Dx9 6x9 door speakers

USaccoustics 4065 4x65 amp

Infinity Kappa Perfect 10" sub in box as a center console (I bought too big of a sub)

rear two channels on amp bridged to run sub, Polks run off the front two channels.

Then I get to transplant this all to my new truck this fall! YEAH!

There is a tool for removing door panels that runs about $7. 00. It looks like a screwdriver with a little nail puller on the end, works good and saves the fasteners most of the time and most auto parts stores should carry it.

Taz lost me on this one. I'm not real familiar with electronic sounds stuff.

Could I just replace my speakers with something better, even if I'm happy with my OEM radio?

Where would I get them and about how much $$?

Thanks all.

The size of the door speakers are 6x9"

Yes you can replace them. How much money depends on how good of a speaker you want.

Deezul 1 has the idea, get the tool it will save the fasteners, even with the door panel pulled off the fastners are a pain to get out but the tool makes it simple. I just installed all my old stuff consisting of a Alpine indash CD, MB Quart 4 and a Boston 5 1/4 in the factory spot then install the MB tweet in the door panel it's self, 4x6 Boston's in the quad doors, built a box to go under the rear seat the holds (2) JL Audio 10's and all of this ran by a Soundstream 405 amp under the passenger seat. Now I'm ready for the cross country drive!
