I just got a set of billet door lock pulls for my '05 quad cab. The guy at Geno's said I have to pull the door panels to do it. Has anyone ever removed the door panels or installed a set of the knobs? I removed my door panel on my old '97 and it didn't go back together the right way. I couldn't find replacement plastic clips and had to reuse the old ones.

Remove the 2 screws at the bottom edge of the panel, one behind the handle, and one up on the mirror mount. Remove the door handle and the window crank if you have one. The raise up on the panel and it will unhook and come off. Unplug the window and door lock switches. It helps if you have the window rolled all the way down.

Do the doors still have those plastic clips that self destruct when you remove then like the 2nd gen trucks? I think the dealer wanted $3. 00 each for them!

Billet Door Locks

SSalzer,

I can't speak for the 05', but I just put the billet door lock knobs on my 04. 5 yesterday and the old ones just unscrewed. I didn't pull the door panel at all Oo. The plastic insert in the new knob is not threaded, but will thread itself when you put it on. The old door knob has a white plastic hex piece on the bottom of it. It should unscrew with the old knob. 10 minute installation tops and they look cool

TowPro, no they don't have plastic clips anymore. They have a hooks that slide into the door. Re-usable many times.

JAYoung, you're right about those door lock pulls. The door panel can stay on for that.

If you (whoever) need to pull the panel off, I believe the Torx screw for the door handle is a T-40. Very easy to put back on, it pretty much self aligns.

I am no auto body expert by any means and I've had mine off a few times for various reasons and I've never managed to screw up the re-install so it can't be too difficult. ;)

Thanks for the info guys. I'll try to install them today. I just got a little nervous because my '97 didn't go back together nice at all. Thanks again.
