As all you 2004 owners know... that Dog gone chime never shuts up!!!!!! If anyone knows were and how to get rid of the door chime PLEASE tell me, I had my dash apart tonight (somewhat) and could not figure out where the thing is. It has a piercing sound to it, And I am going to rid of it real soon! Once you put the truck in gear it goes nuts, and around the job site in/out of my truck it never stops!

PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks!!!

the manual says there is a way to get rid of the seatbelt chime but turning the truck on and plugin/unplugin the belt a couple of times tell you hear a chime. But it has never wored for me and I have tryed it a bunch. Anyone out there acually havethat trick work?

This is from memory, but I believe it is right since I just did it a few days ago on an 04.

1) Put on the seat belt on with the key off.

2) Key on and wait until the seat belt light goes off.

3) Unbuckle and buckle 3 times or more (light should go on and off each time). End with the belt buckled.

4) Key off. Should chime to indicate change.

Repeat same procedure to enable.

I knew you guys would come through!!!:D :D

Dealer told me there is NO way to disable it, that they are aware of? Thanks soooo much. I will do it in the morning.

I have not tried to deprogram it, but I just plugged my center seat belt into my outlet, that shut it up. I plan on getting the seat belt extender from the dealer, plugging that it. The extender is free on any new truck if you ask for it.

All the comments about the seat belts are great

But how do we delete the "door open" chime? Or when you do the seat belt plug & unplug thing, does that delete the door open chime also? Or is there another trick to that?

Are you talking key in/door open chime? I cut the wire that senses the key in the ignition. Pretty quick and simple. I like to have the radio on and the door open while I work, clean, etc. and this mod allows me to do that.

Yep, thats the one I am talking about. I would like to cut the wire as you did, but I would still like the chime to work when the headlites are on, though. To my way of thinking, they should never have made the chime to ring for so many things. As a person becomes oblivious to the thing after a while, thus defeating it's purpose. And like you, I like to have the door open to listen to the radio, and such. I guess that at this time I should do a search And find which wire it is, but if you do'nt mind telling me, I guess that I'll for sure know.

You know that the fix for this in the second gen was a simple one,as someone else here on TDR had found. It involved simply unplugging the connection in the steering column. I wish that it was still that simple. But, alas, thats progress:rolleyes:

Thank you for the reply:)

There is 20 guage light blue wire at the base of the steering column on the left side. Have to remove a few screws to get the knee bolster off for access. Pin 5 on the black 14 way plug. (between the 16gu red and 20gu black w/dark green wire)

Disclaimer: I did this BOMB probably before my check even cleared while programming out the stupid horn chirp and automatic locks so I have no way of knowing what else it might've effected. I know I don't have the anoyance of the chime when the door is open, but I don't know if there are any good things I'm missing. (like is everyone elses radio without display or non functioning wheel controls in ACC mode?)

It's sort of a tight spot but try to leave some room to reconnect if there's something negative for you after and want to switch back. (and just in case, keep your face away from the airbag when you clip it)

It's about a 5 minute job. Good luck Jim. This post will self-destruct in 5 seconds.....

PFFFFFFFFT

:D

 (OK, I didn't need to include the goofy Mission Impossible stuff  )

I do still have the lights on chime. Not sure if I lost function of anything else. I'm not certain that the 04 wiring is the same colors, etc. as the 03's. Anybody have an 04 service manual that could confirm it?
