Anyone ever have this happen? Opened the door today and saw it fall on the ground. What holds it on the door mechanism? And is their a trick to get it in there? Sure seems tough.

Its possible that it somehow got snagged or just popped out, i think you might know what i mean by snagged, hard to explain what im trying to say there, if were not dark out i could take a dig pic and send it to you, i can do that tomorrow if that will help you out, i think the spring in the door is held in by the springs' pressure, but im not positive. .

Thanks for the quick reply.

I think I know what you mean by snagged. Eventually I suppose it can push itself out.

Wouldn't you think there should be some spindle that holds the spring in? It doesn't look like it though.

Same thing happened to mine. On mine, the spacers that hold the whole spring assy in center wore out letting it drop down and the spring came out because it was offcenter. I am looking for something to replace these spacers but have not found any thing useable yet.

Both sides are mirror image of each other. The lever in the center should be level and not move sideways as the door moves. When they wobble that lets the spring come off.

The spring was out of mine when I got it.

be forewarned... it is a royal PITA to get the spring back in my yourself and WITH the door on.
