Door weatherstrip problem on 05

Hey guys,



I know this topic has been hammered to death on here but I thought this was supposed to be fixed on 05 models. My friend just drove to work today in his 05 CTD dually and has had it about a month now. His door weatherstripping is already tearing (the front corner near where the a-pillar meets the hood). I thought this was fixed on the 05 models. I should be receiving my new 2500 05 at the beginning of the year and am now concerned. I know there is a TSB out for this but some people are saying the new weatherstripping is tearing as well. Any ideas about this?

I've had mine less than a month, got 1200 miles on it and I noticed mine are starting to rub through also, I'll wait to get mine replaced to see if they can come up with a better design.

All I have been seeing about this in the forums is that people are going to wait to see if a new TSB will come out. Anyone have any conclusive info on the subject?

Just wait until the "new" TSB comes out. Otherwise you will be back for another wasted trip.

Any idea when the new TSB is coming out? Some people said they had success with TSB 23-008-04 and some people haven't. Is that the new TSB or is there going to be a new one to replace that one?

I don't see how it can be fixed. It's a major door seal interference design flaw. There isn't enough room for a seal at the pinch point as the corner of the door rotates past the truck body.



I just assume leave it. .

New seals installed 12-16-04. ---55275616AC--Sharp corner of door rides over top of seal lip. This seal is smaller in size than original -and softer. --So far,no rub or wear marks. Replaced under TSB 23-008-04

My 04, the seals are not torn, so other than seeing that the seal is torn in the one spot. Is it actually leaking water into the truck?



Wondering if this is just a cosmetic problem.

Spray them with silicon at every oil change. I think my new ones rub worse than the old ones.

The weatherstriping on my 4. 5 was just getting worse and from the comments on this and previous threads stating that the new ones are not much better, I thought I might try something. I got a can of "Brush-on Electrical Tape", cleaned a section app. 2" either side of the wear area and applied several coats. This dries with smooth and tough finish. Three weeks now and it seems to holding up pretty well. This might extend the life of the seals a little longer. Anyone tried anything similar?

Anybody have anything new on this? My '05 has less than 1,500 miles on it and both sides already have pieces missing out of the weatherstripping . I hate to take it to a dealer for a day if they aren't going to fix it right. Downtime is a killer. My '03 Chev rubs (similar to the Dodge) when you open/close the doors too, but the weatherstripping must be made out of a better material because after 31,000 miles it is scuffed but hasn't rubbed through yet. Maybe DC needs to invest in some better quality weatherstripping ???

maybe they are going about this all wrong. In Stead of trying to find a weather strip that wont rip maybe they should make something that covers the inside edge of the door where the outer an inner skin meet. It will get rid of the sharp edge and should fix the problem... ...

My 04. 5 (driver's side) seals started tearing a few weeks after delivery. I had them replaced and the "new" seal is ripped just as much. No water leaks - just an "interesting" design choice.

Same problem here on my 05. Picked it up Friday. Was looking at something today and noticed a small tear in the weatherstrip where the door corner catches it. It pulls down when I open the door and pinches up when closing. I've got to run by the dealer tomorrow so I'm going to point this out. I'll see what he says. I don't mind letting it go for a while to get the right fix in.

The new TSB is going to have a different part number for each side. I have bent up the door edge slightly with good results. You can also make a door adjustment to make it fit a bit better. Probably best way is to wait until it gets designed correctly.

Have had mine for a month with 1400mi. Already been in 5 times to clear ambiant battery temp code and today discovered my driver side rubber torn and cut. Dealer says this is the first he has seen and the guy behind me with a two month old 2005 looks at his and it is torn also. Today I missed my 2000 cummins.

Add One More to the Silicone Success Group

As a reader of this forum for many months before I bought a CTD and became a TDR member, I was aware of the weatherstrip tearing problem. As a result, I siliconed the strips almost as soon as I got the rig and really applied generous amounts on the door and strip at the offending zone.



So far so good, 9 months old and no noticeable abrasion, cutting or tearing.

Took mine by the dealer yesterday. He couldn't apologize enough. The new part number weather strip is ordered. The door bend is the problem from what I can tell.

Taking mine in tomorrow with 1300 miles and a tear on both sides. The service rep said they had been having good luck with the newer stripping installed. He did not give me specifics of whether it was a smaller strip or better material. Poor design to say the least!!!
