2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission doorlocks

On my passenger side the door lock motor runs but the door does not always lock or unlock. I can hear it run. I sounds like if you held your lock switch in the lock or unlock position. I pulled the door panel and realized i was absolutly clueless as to what to check.

Maybe it just needs to be adjusted.

Open door, insert a hex-wrench through the elongated hole in door end frame near the latch striker opening.

2. Loosen torx head screw on the side of the latch linkage.

3. Lift upward on the outside door handle and release it.

4. Tighten torx head screw on latch.

5. Verify latch operation.

Sorry,I do not know the torx size.



Your saying that it works electrical but not mechanical.

If electrical, check ground.

Crabman, that sets the adjustment for the door latch, not the lock. I don't think there is an adjustment for it.

JD, it sounds like a weak lock motor. It's trying to move the rod/lock mechanism, but can't anymore. Since you've got the door panel off, check for anything that would be binding the lock rod/levers. You can see what moves when you manually move the door lock button. If you don't see anything, go for the lock motor.

I hear ya, and feel your pain. Mine works..... MOST of the time, but like you, it is not terribly unusual for it not too.



For the most part, mine almost always will lock the door, but not unlock it, maybe that's a hint.



I just chalked it up to a flaw I have to live with, but would like to know the answer, perhaps I would fix it.



Mine is a 97 as well, could be a characteristic.

I have door locks that blow the fuse once in a while. Mostly in colder weather. Which could be Oct. thru May up here in the north country. I asume the mechanism gets sticky when cold and draws too much current. Has anyone else seen this? 95' 2500 ext. 4x4 #6 tst. complete BD tans. mag-hi-tech.

Both of my door's don't work. It started with the pass. door, then the drivers door.



My local auto shop says the door lock actuators are one unit, and not "repaiarble".



My motor runs away at full speed, but the door lock doesn't budge,, up or down.

I have used doors complete with windows and all the goodies in them. They have been sitting in my shop for some time because i thought i would run into the same problems you guys did.

Same problem on my 97. It started as the drivers side and almost never worked. That didn't bother me, but now the passenger stopped working and that annoys me too much to leave alone so I'll be looking at this this weekend. If anyone has come up with a solution let me know. If not at least its back to the top and maybe I'll figure something out. If I do I'll let you all know.

gosh... . i wish i kept better records but i think i changed out my actuator... pretty easy job and have not had a problem since. oh yeah it was annoying on the passenger side.

Mine do the same thing. I took the switches (actuators? motors?) out and tried contact cleaner through the switch lever openings and it didn't help. You can't really get into the little boxes as they are well sealed and you'd have to break them to get them open. Seems like I've seen on here before that they are not repairable and you have to replace. I can't say that I've ever noticed that they make any sound. I'll have to listen to them.

yeah, i am one of those people that would rather buy to many parts and know i have the problem covered (my tiime is very limited, when it comes to repairs) so basically buy everything that could be wrong and start changing stuff out. . when it works i stop and return whatever is left over... . my actuator was bad... i think i bought mine from a person that was parting out a 2nd gen door, i basically bought the door guts... and started "parts replacing"



still works.

I have almost the opposite problem. In the last couple of days, the passenger door won't lock using the power lock switch. I can see the lock move from unlock to lock and then back to unlock. It feels like something is preventing it from moving all the way down to the lock position and as a result it unlocks itself. I can manually lock the door but even then the lock seems to be abnormally high.

i picked up a used actuator and changed it out, maybe a 20 minute job and it has worked ever since... go thru the for sale section, tons of people selling parts, they probably have one laying around.
