DOR Group Buy!!!!

Hello, All:



I had a Denver Off Road bumper on my '01 and loved the aluminum bumper: lighter weight but similar strength to steel and NO chance of rust. However, the price is higher than other replacement bumpers.



I just got off the phone with Layne at DOR and explained the Buckstop group buy going on now. He's IN, but wants one day to work over some numbers; I'll post his price tomorrow.



He has 2nd and 3rd gen bumpers available. He says the 3rd gens are even nicer than the one on my 2nd gen. On the 3rd gens, he is making a separate piece to cover the lower radiator, and this will be included in the group buy.

Layne doesn't have a website but in the readers rigs section both mactruck and sregorb have pictures of their bumpers. I have one and love it. It is definitely top quality, excellent fit and finish. Weighs in at like 135lbs. 1/2" and 3/8" aluminum. Has light tabs and will hold up to the warn 15k winch. I put mine on myself in about an hour and fifteen minutes including taking off the stock one. It bolted right up no drilling or anything. The stocker is truely thin. Just a few weeks ago I was helping out a fellow member who lives in Austria who needed a new stock bumper and got some prices and weights (for shipping) for him and the stock bumper complete with mounts and everything weighs 44lbs.

I love my DOR bumper and must say it's a real work of art and built very STOUT. Second, if you call Lane for info you'll soon find out you couldn't ask for a more helpful, friendly fella to deal with.



At first it may seem like big $$'s for a bumper, but think about the hastle it'll save ya when ya hit your first (game animal here).



IMHO money well spent, I can't say enough about it.

I talked with Layne this morning about his rear bumper that he started making. I am going to go see him on Friday and check one out in person. I will try and take some pics of it.

Well I saw Layne Friday afternoon. First of all I didn't get to see a third gen bumper in person only a picture(he didn't have any fabbed up at the moment) but it sure looked nice. The lower skirt for it is great. Hides/protects the lower radiator and body mounts. It will be a nice addition to the bumper.



Since he sells the UTE bumper also he showed me a comparison of the two. The UTE is an awesome bumper (and i would have no problem using one) but after seeing them side by side his DOR is better built guess that shows his commitment to quality and workmanship.



He had a stack of his rear bumpers that were almost finished (90%). That stack is already sold but I put my name down on the list for the next batch. His rear bumper is imho one the best rear bumpers I have ever seen and I have looked everywhere. It is made of the same materials as the front. It is a drop style. It is the same size as the stock one width and length. It is a bit deeper (due to the drop). It has about 4 1/2 -5 inches wide X about 6 inches of depth X the length of the bumper for storage. The storage box area has 2 internal steel reinforcements at the mounting area. The lid or top of the bumper is made from what he called european diamond plate and has 3 push in type locking mechanisms. The hinge he uses is like a piano hinge it goes the entire length of the lid not just a few 3 inch pieces of hinge. The bumper can be rigged with a swing away tire carrier and or jerry can carriers if desired. It still allows the use of the stock hitch. It will hold a 5 foot high lift jack, oil bottles fit in it as well. So it will hold a fair amount of stuff. He asked me not to take pictures of it at least yet. So, sorry no pics at this time. It will set a new standard for rear bumpers. Cant wait to get it.

I've got pictures of my rear one(with tire carrier) and my front one also. I don't know how to post them is what happened to the pictures. Now I'm hearing Layne doesn't want people taking pictures of them ? Trade secrets , I guess. Anyway, they are pretty nice. My rear one was the fourth one built, so they are still in an evolving stage. I'm sort of like the bumper test dummyOo.

I think the reason he didn't want me to take pics of the rear was because of what Jo said about the evolution. I am speculating here but I think he just wants to wait until he has a "final" product. He really cares about his product. I have looked all over for rear bumpers and there are many fine ones out there but his design with the storage and optional carriers is quite unique.

Yeah, that would be me. As far as I'm concerned, 1 1/2" wider would be fine . Layne thinks it would cut down on the departure angle here, but in a 24' long vehicle I don't think that is going to make a difference. It is handy to have my chains back there, and the spare tire holder was what I was after cause of my aft axle tank.
