It's a small percentage of CTD's that have this problem but you just never know if yours is one or not. I personally could not rest until I took it apart and fixed it so it could never come out. It's a small price to pay for assurance as compared to what it would cost to fix it if it does indeed come out.
The only way to check it is to take the gear cover off and while you are in there you might as well fix it so it will never come out. There is also another fix you can do if you so choose without taking the cover off. Do a search for the "killer dowel", you will find a lot of information on it.
Been thinking of how to check the KDP for migrating without tearing into the 'box. After studying the pictures, gonna borrow a friends very small endoscope (the thingy your doctor uses to look, well you know... ) It's got light, magnifies, and can look around corners—and it'll get alot less dirty than it usually does on doggies. I figured it will easily pass through the oil filler mounting hole and sneak over the camshaft gear. If the pin's on the move, surgery time, if not, I'll schedule a recheck?? I understand it once checked a toilet too!! I hear A&P mechanics use these on planes, so someone else might have one to try. Gotta give it a try at least—for 10 minutes time?!
